I got the impression through having to book and finding the place hidden away, that it is almost secret. That's GREAT. I feel this place survives on "quality" rather than quantity of visitors. It is pleasant, especially on a fine day, and we were shown around the garden rather than left to wander which we could do after the tour.... More

Ron & Margaret Long’s wonderful country garden “Frensham”, (named after the red rose, which was her father’s favourite,) at Tai Tapu, a short drive from Christchurch, is at the end of a lovely tree lined lane. After arriving in Christchurch in 2013 to stay with my family and being a professional gardener, I looked for gardens to visit. Our visit to Frensham exceeded expectations. Margaret is a very knowledgeable and gracious host and having the opportunity to purchase plants seen in the garden was a real bonus.
