This is a small hilly city outside of Christchurch. There is a main street with different restaurants and cafe. A nice place to spend the afternoon in one of the cafes. Other than that, there is not much as the port is the main port for what look like the exporting point for timber. This is where you can get... More

Worth a trip on the public bus out to dinner and for a stroll. It was easier to get to than we expected (particularly from the Gondola station -- halfway there), and interesting to see how it has recovered from the Earthquake. Several quirky bars and restaurants, a young vibe.

My partner and I loved this fantastic little town on our recent trip to New Zealand! The atmosphere was great, lots of yummy cafes with great healthy food. Lots of funky little stores to shop at. Has a seaside village feel to it, definitely worth a visit!

The town would not merit more than a glance if it were not for the Saturday market. A wonderful array of organic, vegetarian and whole foods sold by friendly locals. The coffee shop (J P Bundy) is the meeting point for locals and tourists. The best brunch we had in NZ

With the PORT in the background, we enjoyed the Farmer's Market spread across the whole street and must confess the HUGE choice of retailers and the variety of lovely food on offer was certainly a treat for both the eyes and the palate. Not to mention the Live music that added to that little carnival atmosphere. Overall--7/10

We checked out the Farmers Market on Saturday morning and were pleasantly surprised with the variety and quality of the goods on display. A very varied variety of foods, drinks and produce. We really enjoyed it and could have stayed longer. Must be a fabulous place for the locals.

Lovely little port suburb, worth a visit, still quite broken from the quake. There is a great market on Saturday mornings, perfect for fresh veg, cheese, breads, meat, sweet treats, flowers, vintage stalls, crafts etc and often with live music. Also the gateway to Quail Island
