You have the tourist information centre in the middle and restaurants and other exhibits. For the scientists see the Nobel prize winning Rutherford den.

My wife and I were lucky enough to win a 'behind the scenes tour' of the Arts Centre and the massive restoration project being undertaken following the Canterbury/Christchurch earthquakes. The effort and quality of the rebuild is 2nd to none and the Arts Centre team undertaking the work are some of the most committed people I have had the pleasure... More

After six years I sat in the North Quad today. There is such a long way to go and such a lot still to be fixed but the Christchurch Arts Centre is back! I couldn't go in the Great Hall as they were preparing for a recital - but that's fine! It's always heartening to know that cultural life is,... More

It was great to see the Great Hall back in action after earthquake repairs and improvements. The visit was made even more enjoyable by being able to view some of the other progress at the Arts Centre and also being able to talk with the very engaging experts involved in the project.

So wonderful to be able to welcome back the Great Hall, this absolute gem of the Arts Centre restoration project. Hopefully by the end of the year it will be hosting regular concerts once again. Do note the memorial plaques of Helen Connon, first woman graduate, and Sir Apirana Ngata, first Maori graduate. The Memorial Window is a masterpiece in... More

I loved this years ago when I lived in ChCh and I feared the worst with initial reports following the earthquakes. I'm delighted to see the rebuild in progress (see photos) and the schedule for progressive reopening. I will review progress as I revisit.

Still in a state of transition after all the quake damage but getting a lot of TLC and attracting a lot of arts and crafts partisans, stone Mason attraction etc. and is generally interesting. Definitely well worth a look and supporting the folk. Very close to CBD, the museum, boating sheds and other points for engaging in whatever takes your... More

This is a good place to find the art and handiwork of some of the many fine artists and craftspeople in Christchurch. For now it is in temporary quarters but easy to find along Worchester Boulevard.

We stayed in Christchurch for a few days in April. When we walked around downtown we saw many stylish Gothic buildings damaged by the earthquake in 2011. The Arts Centre was one of them. Our host told us the city demolished the buildings that were beyond help and fenced up the ones that can be restored. I hope The Arts... More

Alas, nothing much remaines other than the framework of this lovely building. Repairing and rebuilding are still ongoing, but it'll probably take several more years before the place opens to the public again.
