Had a takeaway coffee and a walk along the pretty bay, watching the families at the playground and swimming in the sea. Expected to find more coffee shops but was enjoyable anyway. Jumped on a $2.00 bus and headed to Kilburnie for lunch. :)

What a delightful area. A short walk from town brings you to sweeping, clean beaches and sparkling water. It is neither too "wilderness" (which I loathe - like Woody Allen I am at two with nature) nor over built, cramped and tacky (eg, Bondi, Manly etc. etc.) A nice prom prom prom to stroll along, fine fresh air, pretty vistas... I started from the port and cycled along Oriental Bay and continued around Evans Bay and the peninsula. At some point there was a sign warning to be careful for penguins crossing the road. The coastline is quite scenic in parts. I went inland at Happy Valley Road and eventually came back towards Wellington on Oharu Valley Road, which is... More

Very well-maintained stretch of the Bay in Wellington city. Lot of benches and outdoor sports options here for skateboard and the likes. Good spot to click pictures against the backdrop of tall-rise buildings and blue ocean.

on a sunny day in particular, this is an idyllic spot. The view of Wellington Harbour from here is spectacular. Swimming, rollerblading, skateboarding, walking, running, cycling, boating or kayaking - everything is possible in this one area. Excellent eateries are close by, and there's a divine italian ice cream parlor just across the road. There's room for wheelchairs and zimmer frames,... More

water on one side, houses rising up the hill on the other. Scenic spot in the city - beautiful by foot or by car. If you're in the city grab a few minutes and some sun screen. If you're in a car, continue through to Lyall Bay and make an excursion of it.

This is a must see and casual stroll around our beautiful Oriental Bay. You could be anywhere in the world - the beach is filled with sand bought over from sunny Nelson Bays - on a beautiful day in Wellington it is hard to beat. Watch the fountain play and visit the many cafe's along the way.

Absolutely walk friendly place. Had the best view of CBD and felt nice to go for a long walk. Sea breeze hits you right on the face but the summer breeze is not so harsh. A must visit place in wellington
