beautiful sandy beach, sheltered from wind by the island so it's safe for children. Dogs are allowed off-leash on the west side of the bay - a good sandy stretch then a rocky point with lots of rock pools to clamber around. There is a really good bus route, and an excellent children's playground just opposite the beach.

Island Bay is georgous, the park for the kids is perfect for a family picnic with bbq's you can use and the beach right across the road. In the old bait shed which is the brown building at the end of the boats kids pay $5 and can go and touch things like starfish and other creatures. Awesome Cafes in... More

A brilliant small community served by the number 1 bus. A great coastal drive that goes past and close to the airport.

Island Bay is very popular and we got the impression those who ran the shops etc all knew they were in competition with each other so, in general, standards were high.

We spent a couple of weeks staying in Island Bay and loved it. Close to the CBD for a couple of days seeing attractions or shopping, but an independent community with a small town feel. Fabulous walks up on the ridge or around the bays. Great little restored cinema. A couple of great coffee places and all you need to... More

Island bay started out life as a fishing village for local people and over the years has become a sought after place to live. Here there are Cafe's, Restaurants, Parks, Gardens, look out points and places of interest. In the farthest part of Island bay they have built a large toilet complex which also has running water and a sewerage... More

I always take out-of-town/overseas visitors to this little gem of an attraction. It's so much fun being able to touch some of the marine life, watch the faces of the children, see the resident octopus being fed. The volunteers who work there (including youngsters) are very knowledgable and I love hearing about how the sea creatures wind up there and... More

When the weather is fine, go take a walk around the beaches and paths around Island bay, sample the delicious fish and chips from the local shop and enjoy your day!
