ZEALANDIA is a heaven of tropical bliss right on the doorstep of Wellington...

ZEALANDIA is a heaven of tropical bliss right on the doorstep of Wellington City. Affectionately referred to as a hidden gem ZEALANDIA received international acclaim for the groundbreaking predator free 8.6km fence. Since the completion of the fence in 1999 ZEALANDIA has brought a number of native birds, reptiles and wildlife back from the brink of extinction where they now roam freely through the 225 hectare valley. A visit to ZEALANDIA is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and a must for anyone visiting Wellington. There are a number treks to saunter, suitable for any fitness level. Alternatively step back in time with our interactive exhibition center or take a load off at the atmospheric Rata Café.

I consider this one of the more interesting and well run Healthy Options for a visit to Wellington. You combine a lovely set of walks with a world of information to absorb. We were lucky as a multitude of Tuatara were out sunning themselves when we visited. Another pleasant feature was that the venue had an on site café, which... More

The most amazing day out! I loved it so much - I returned the next day (The ticketing system allows you to return the following day for free on the original ticket). The highlights included observing the Takahe, Hihi and Kakariki. Perfect activity/day out for all ages. The on-site cafe provides amazing meals/snacks, but it is just as enjoyable to... More

Really nice peaceful place with nice walks, recommended walk all the way to the top dam for the best views, hard to find the wild life except for the feeders areas.

Visited with husband and toddler. The idea of Zealandia is such a great one and I could really appreciate the efforts the staff and community have put in to making this place so special. Although I was expecting to see more wildlife for some reason. Apparently on the day we visited there were tuatara out and about but we didn't... More

If you want to see rare birds and have a conversation with the local robins this is the place to go. Lovely walking tracks and many peaceful spots for a picnic you could spend from a couple of hours to all day here.

This is an absolute must do for any nature lovers who are visiting Wellington. We only had time for a morning visit, and the sanctuary provides a free shuttle service to the park from the top of the cable car or the i-site. Our driver gave us lots of extra information about Wellington on the way too! The park itself... More

We were only there filling in time, but the bus service was good for a shuttle. The exhibits are modern and interactive.

Having not done any research, I expected this to be a bit like a zoo built on a park, however it was far more exciting. This is a large reserve for a city, where there are a number of walks built on either side of a river. The purpose-built barriers to remove non-native wildlife has resulted in native birdlife flourishing.... More
