Wellington City is a warm and beautiful city; full of charm, friendly people and historical and wonderful architectural buildings. There are lovely walkways and Wellington also has a fantastic waterfront district with restaurants and cafes. We walked part of the Northern Walkway, starting at Truscott Avenue in Johnsonville for our climb to the top of Mount Kaukau. We hadn't done this before so were unsure what to expect. The Mount is 445 metres above sea level and is the most visible high point in the Wellington landscape. Its quite a climb!!! Lots of steps. We... More

Walking is really the best way to go in Wellington. You can easily walk all around the bays and all the way to Mirimar/Seatoun with no trouble. The city centre is mostly flat, which is a blessing because the burbs are very hilly! There are lots of well spaced toilets everywhere too.

We took a walking tour of much of the CBD including the waterfront walkways. Our guide provided all kinds of interesting historical and cultural insights as well as some amount of historical gossip! A fun way to spend 2+ hours.

A couple of hours to spare in Wgtn and want some peace and quiet, this is the walk for you. First catch the Cable Car from the CBD to the hills behind Wgtn city ($4 for a one way ticket). From there after taking in the panorama from the top of Wgtn City and Harbor, take the walkway down hill... More

There are a very good range of walkways in Wellington with wonderful views. The Visitor Centre has some good publications and website information to show you where to go.

Wellington has walkways down to a science. The walks are paved and well signed to help you get from point A to point B. They are a great way to see Wellington. Take the time to enjoy the walk from the cable car stop at the botanical gardens, through the gardens and back downhill to the city center. This walk... More
