The Qualmark endorsed Weta Cave is your gateway to two immersive film-making experiences on the Miramar Peninsula:

Our Weta Cave Workshop Tour provides a unique peek behind-the-scenes through windows into our Workshop. Our story of film-making creativity is told by members of our crew on a tour full of authentic props, models and weapons from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Motion Picture Trilogies, and more. They may even reveal a few of the secrets behind the movie magic!

Step onto a live shooting stage for our guided Thunderbirds Are Go Behind-The-Scenes Experience. This journey into our latest handcrafted world, reveals the authentic set pieces, props, and models that bring to life this contemporary retelling of the beloved TV classic. FAB.

A cavern of creativity, the Weta Cave shop also boasts sculptures made by the filmmakers at Weta Workshop, prop replicas, apparel, jewellery, books and more. While you’re here, take a seat for a free film about the history of film-making on the Miramar Peninsula. It screens throughout the day.

Ticket prices for either the Weta Cave Workshop Tour or Thunderbirds Behind the Scenes Tour:

Adults: $25,

Children 6-12 years: $12,

Infants (5 and under): FREE,

Family Pass (2 adults + 2 children) $60

First of all, Weta Cave is more like a small souvenir shop than a museum. As long as you are aware of that, Weta Cave is a great place to visit, especially if you are a fan of any of the movies they have had a part in creating. The shop is small but it is full of collectibles, souvenirs... More

As travellers on a budget we went along to the Weta Cave simply because we're film fans. You can of course book onto a tour and see all the workshop back rooms, I'm sure it's fascinating, but equally a little look round the shop, some photos with the Lord of the Ring Orcs outside and a watch of the free... Me and my partner were running late and ended up getting there in time for the last tour. To our luck, we were the only people there! Managed to get a private tour which some shmucks pay thousands of dollars for. The tour guide was lovely and very knowledgeable. We got to touch cool LOTR stuff and other films weta... More

I have to admit that I was there for my grandsons who enjoyed it but to really get the best out of it you would need to have seen all or some of the films. Also, we went first thing on a Sunday morning and so nothing was being worked on. However, the guide was passionate and I think the... More

Missed out on a tour as they were fully booked, but we visited "the cave" and watched there interesting video. It was still worth a visit just to see their displays and educational video. Kids really enjoyed it, and hopefully next time we'll get a tour in.

We had a great experience here, it was amazing getting to see props and costumes from such iconic movies. We got to touch and experience a few props and see how Weta do what they do!

We had not heard of the Weta Cave before but our NZ family took us to visit this amazing experience. I never appreciated before today the thought and technical knowledge that goes into the making of a movie. The people who work on all the props must themselves be wizards! They must be so talented and patient people taking the... More

We took the tour bus to Weta and had a lovely English girl as our driver. Was informative and fun with some bizarre info on roundabouts. You watch a short video before tour starts and another one before you get to go behind the scenes. Lots of info and tales from a young lady who actually worked on lord of... More
