Not the best time to visit but still appreciated the beautiful bush. Easy to get around - plan to do it again in spring

This reserve has few deciduous trees but what there is were showing off the most gorgeous colours especially the Reds. We often visit here when in Taupo, the rhododendrons & azaleas are gorgeous later in the year, the views to the lake are lovely & the natives especially the kauris will be really something in years to come. This reserve... More

A team of volunteers care for this forested park full of character trees such as groves of kauri, rhododendron and camellia. Natives and exotics combine for a wonderful experience. Donation boxes allow visitors to show their appreciation for this 'labour of love' Taupo treasure.

We visited in April 2017, still very pleasant. There are good walking tracks. A great attraction to visit for free.

We accidently came across the gardens as we came into Taupo from Napier. The autumn foliage was in its most brilliant form. The meandering paths took you through deep ferny glades. The rhododendrons and azaleas would be amazing in spring and we are already planning to return in October to enjoy the lavish celebration of their colour and form. The... More

The Botanical Garden were bursting with flowers and the smell was amazing. Beautiful grounds with some good views of Taupo. A nice place to get lost for an afternoon.

Well set out gardens, good walking tracks that would take a push chair or wheel chair. An oasis not far from the city.

Listed as a Reserve rather than a Garden....best seen in the spring (October or so) when the Azaleas, rhododendrons and camellias are in bloom and this should be in their literature. Otherwise, a great place to walk, the various plants are marked and there are lots of benches to sit on.

Wonderful garden - if you are short on time, just drive thru. Or, stop off at the various signposted walks, and/or take a picnic and enjoy your meal in a grassy spot with lake views. Loved the lake views, bird life, and variety of plants. Had a wonderful close up encounter with a fantail, and saw 4 Tuis.

We love visiting gardens when on holiday as we are members of the Royal Horticulture Gardens in England. These garden are obviously on a much smaller scale, but very interesting nevertheless. It is divided into specialised areas and of course many of the lovely plants we saw wouldn't survive in U.K. except in a greenhouse. It was lovely to see... More
