Our visit to hot water beach at Lake Tarawera was an amazing experience. How often do you see natural steaming hot water pouring out of a hillside and into a lake edge? It was a real novelty to see thermal water in nature like that and great to give the kids that experience. Loved the scenic little camp ground and... More

Stayed with a large group of friends and 17 children aged 12-3. Wonderful spot with no cell phone reception and the only luxury being toilets. Kids utterly happy being kids, swimming, exploring, enjoying being together. Most of our group cooked their food hangi-style in the steaming hot stream. All very successful. We also did bananas and chocolate, hot noodles, hot... More

Visited this amazing location with family. What a unique experience, digging your very own hot water spa on a beach with amazing views.

Lovely hike from the landing to the hot pool and after that over the last hill to the hot water beach. I loved the hike and the hot water experience. I took the water taxi for 25$ (leaves at 3:30pm but call to make sure it arrives) back. Important: wear long trousers. Some part of the track is covered by... More

We actually planned another trip but changed plans after this hike was recommended by the DOC information in Rotorua. It is a wonderful 15 km hike along Lake Terawera with beautiful views of the lake. After arriving at the campsite you are greeted by the very open and friendly host and you can relax sitting in the lake enjoying the... More

Enjoyed the 15km hike to the beach. It is a long hard hike so be prepared. Took a solid 4 hours. Lots of uphill so good level of fitness is essential. Not a good hike for young children. Take food and water with you. Beach was stunning. DOC campsite is great. Will be going back.
