We stayed overnight at a freedom approved camping site. When we awoke, we saw the beautiful lake, a ton of activities , and a small park to walk through. The town center is near, with a lot of shopping, activities and a lot of wild life. Seeing the black swans was a big excitement for the kids. A lot of... More

We visited Mnt Tarawera by Helicopter of Vulcanic Air and made a walk into the crater with two guides of Kaitiaki Adventures. A magnificent view from the helicopter and we were put on the top of Mnt. Tarawera. There were our two guides waiting for us. After a lot of very interesting information about the history of the vulcan and... More

A beautiful lake that you can't miss when in Rotorua, surrounded by hot springs and lovely little buildings, you can't miss a good photo opoortunity while here! I recommend walking from town, along the lake to the government gardens! Very nice :)

The day we took a walk at the lake front, it was overcast and windy. This might explain why nothing was happening there. We saw two seaplanes, an old steamship, Jetboats and yachts moored in the lake, but nothing was moving except for the ducks and seagulls. We walked the length of the lake waterfront and back, and still nothing... More

Spent some time walking along the waterfront admiring both the scenery and the wildlife. There must have been a couple of hundred ducks (unknown variety to me). They were very black contrasting well with the multitude of black swans, I have seen them in pictures but never in the flesh. They gave the scene a peaceful and tranquil feel. There... More

We walked along the lake on the walking trail & thorouly enjoyed it. It is pretty & scenic. A little smelly near the sulpher vents.

There is so much to see around the lake. Thermal springs in so many places, amazing birds are feeding around the shore. Trail walks take you into more remote areas and this is such a quiet area, so you rarely see anyone. The buildings around the lake make a lovely backdrop to the exploring.

Beautiful volcanic caldera lake with exceptional watersports. Very calm water great for kayaking, but the wind sometimes precludes parasailing.

We stayed in the Sudima Hotel right alongside the lake. From here we could see some amazing sights including birdlife on a steaming lake. Nearby there was a walk that took us a short distance alongsie the edge of the lake to include Cameron's Laughing Gas pool which I thought was fascinating. Not spectacular but definitely amazing. Also its amazing... More

We are here in nz for 8 wks and were told to visit as it's a must. Our first observation was that nothing is really signposted. You know it's there but it doesn't say much about anything. As we were staying on the lakeside and had a car we drove around stopping of at things as and when you fancied.... More
