We stayed right near the lake and found it really cool and interesting, although it’s a bit smelly! We dug in to the sand on the side of the lake and made “foot spas” but be warned, the water can get very hot!

Stunning view, amazing place. The lake was formed from the crater of a volcano. Lake Rotorua is fed with water from a numerous streams; some such as the Utuhina flow warm water.

This lake is beautiful in an area of wonderful scenery- but its real highlight is that it is based on the edge of the worlds youngest geothermal Clive area. And accordingly it has an amazing amount of geysers, mud pools, hotels with naturally heated spas.
