We visited the lake twice during our visit. It has a beautiful view and is very calm and peaceful place. You'll want to just sit down and look out at the mesmerizing ripples on the water with the ducks waddling, the sea planes and boats bobbing in the water where they are moored. Its a great place to relax and... More

We rode around the entire lake during our visit to Rotorua. This lake is big but I did not see any areas where swimming is allowed. It is not as commercial as I would have thought. A nice park fronts the lake in Rotorua.

Drove down from The Coromandel no problem. The lake is superb with stunning views and apparently various activities. The town is attractive, clean and has numerous restaurants and plenty of site seeing opportunities. Peaceful. Great.

This lake is picturesque, and there are lovely places to picnic on its banks. There are facilities available to enjoy watersports etc

Our stay was just opposite to the lake. The lake is very clean and quite big. Beauty lies here. Suitable for long Walks. You have gardens all around, to hang around with friends and family.

Really nice lake. Good park with ice cream shop on other end. Kids play area, BBQ's, toilets, cafes. Can walk from the lake front (to the right) round to government gardens passing a stunning Whaka on the way. Very nice walk, lots to see. All Free!

Nice area, plenty to do. Sailing, flying, hiking, bathing (Hell's Gate), dining, gondola, mountain biking and wine tasting (me!) I stayed at newly renovated Lake Rotorua hotel and was a comfortable 3-4 start hotel, just 5 minutes from downtown. Touring NZ? A must stop, especially to see all the geothermal sites!

Although the lake is picturesque and the gardens to the east really nice, accessibility and parking options are limited. Get there early to gain a nice spot or just drive on south for easier accessible lakes and bigger views.

We stayed overnight at a freedom approved camping site. When we awoke, we saw the beautiful lake, a ton of activities , and a small park to walk through. The town center is near, with a lot of shopping, activities and a lot of wild life. Seeing the black swans was a big excitement for the kids. A lot of... More
