Def a nice thing to do. All the colours and the diferents pools are amazing. Althought the smell can make ou feel a bit sick, its worth it. Try to make on a sunny day, colours will be brighter!

It's a worthwhile visit just to see and feel a safe barely active thermal area. The Lady Knox is impressive but induce with good historical background. The walk in the park is good exercise with some decent views especially the craters and the artist pallette...More

My husband a I thoroughly enjoyed our day spent at Wai-O-Tapu. It was very interesting and offered the opportunity to see an incredible variety of thermal landscapes, including bubbling mud pools, steaming ponds in amazing colours and a geyser. I was skeptical about a geyser...More

Had the most amazing morning here, so much to see - I think this is the best thermal park I have seen so far in NZ, and I have seen a few! It is quite a drive away from Rotorua - probably around 45-50 mins.

We recently visited with a party of seven, including three kids. Everyone enjoyed the colors, the steam, and the overall experience. The geyser is interesting but be prepared for a 10-15 minute talk before the geyser lets go. The kids got a bit squirmy since...More

Wai-O-Tapu is pure geo-thermal and has different colours of slurry based on the material beneath. Te-Puia has geo-thermal as well as cultural program, museum, KIWI bird, etc. You can avoid Wai-O-Tapu if you are not very keen... More

Yes it is - however not advisable due to costs. It may pay to look online at the Intercity Bus or other operators that come to us daily like Headfirst Tours and the like. A taxi is an expensive option.
