Tamaki Maori Village – Evening Cultural Experience. New Zealand’s Most Awarded Cultural Experience! Experience an evening of ceremonial ritual, powerful cultural performance, storytelling & hangi feasting. Share in the Powhiri, our ancient ceremony of welcome before entering our pre-European Maori Village nestled within a native Tawa Forest. The village comes alive with sights, sounds & activity of days gone by including haka, poi, tattooing, weaving, carving and arts of warrior training. You will have the opportunity to participate in these activities. Witness the earth being scraped away from the hangi pit to reveal baskets of food cooked beneath the ground on hot stones. Enter the ancestral meeting house and enjoy a powerful cultural performance before dining the traditional hangi buffet feast!

My wife and I and two Kiwi friends were staying briefly in Rotorua and were interested in the Maori culture so booked this trip. The entire event is staffed by Maori people so we were collected by coach from our location and driven by a highly humerous and entertaining driver who gave us a preamble of the evening's events. Once... More

We had a brilliant time here. We really appreciated learning about the Maori culture and traditions plus getting the opportunity to give some of them a go. The dinner was really tasty and we had plenty to eat. Unmissable!

Picked up at our hotel, entertained by on board guide from the village. A really fun evening of learning, participating, eating, and laughing. Made a lot more fun by our guide.

We had booked evening in Tamaki Village. Wellcome with show and dances as well as explanation was very pleasant and extensive. It gives you fair view on Maori culture and hosts really try to give full explanation on their culture. Evening with dinner is also worthwhile : simple but very well prepared buffet on a traditional steam maori way :... More

Tamaki offers a slick package that includes bus transportation to the site (the bus drivers are an added plus!), several cultural demonstrations and a decent buffet style meal. There is plenty to see and do before dinner, replicating the experience of visiting a Maori village. It feels authentic and is quite interactive. The food is cooked in a traditional Maori style... Wow. If there's one thing you treat yourself to, please make it the tamaki village. Unrivalled fun, education, laughs and hands on involvement. The personal feeling you get is wonderful and the workers are truly passionate about their culture. Honestly cannot recommend it highly enough, PLEASE GO!

Since most of the demonstrations are outdoor, it was freezing to stand out in the open at night. I went on November 28 and it was still unbearable. It took away the appreciation of the educational demonstration. The food is mediocre. Buffet for a large crowd was difficult.
