We were picked up from our accommodation and the bus driver turned out to be a real Maori character. The bus took us to the village where 3 other buses were waiting and the initial (serious) part of the evening was the greeting at the start. Very well done and an example of the Maori spirit and culture. The rest... More

We did the overnight stay with a small tour group and had a great time. It's educational and great fun, the staff are really keen to help you learn about the Maori culture, the food is good, you learn to sing a song in Maori language, and you can relax in a hot tub at the end of the evening... We have been there before with friends and went again with a group while on a course in Rotorua. It's a great introduction to the local culture. It's professional but not so polished that would lose the family feel. Some may not like the local style food. We love it.

My husband and I loved our experience at Tamaki Maori Village! It was a good introduction into the Maori culture. The night was interactive and fun as well educational. The hangi feast towards the end of the night was absolutely fantastic! There was plenty of food and desert. There was also a bar that sold alcohol/soft drinks for an added... More

We spent an enjoyable evening learning about the Maori culture. If you are visiting Rotorua, you should make plans to visit Tamaki Maori Village. We were picked up at our hotel and driven to the village. Prior to our arrival, our bus driver Davey taught us a few words in Maori. He also explained what would happen when we arrived... More

If you want to experience pre European Maori culture this Village is a great starting point. Once you are formally welcomed you are introduced to poi poi, stick agility, the significance of tattoos, the haka and how the ancestral Mãori travelled from Polynesian by very large wakkas. This is followed by entertainment in the form of dancing and ding and... More

A good evening with lots of crowd interation with the village.people. Great food presentation at Hangi Dinner and facilities were awesome. Have also been to Mitai night and did feel the Tamaki one was a bit more" touristy" over all. Also the Cultural Song and Dance Performance didn't compare favourably with the more indepth one at Mitai.

The food/meal was plain and bland but the Maori show was interesting in terms of explaining the Maori history and culture. In fact the show alone would have been good enough to warrant the visit.

We are still talking about this place after a few days so it is certainly memorable. The presentations are well done & highly inclusive and interactive. To select a chief from each bus kept the groups together & provided some reality to this village. The exhibits flowed well between groups, were highly informative and fun. The hangi dinner was absolutely... More

This is a way to experience and learn about the Maori culture from their landings on this beautiful island of New Zealand. You are immersed in how they live and how they look after each other. Their traditions, including having the men try the Haka. The dances, whether for war or otherwise are spectacular and you can see how much... More
