The falls are really worth travelling up the river to see. Along the banks are lots of birdlife and stunning scenery. The falls can be reached by road, cruise up the Waitangi River or walk path along the banks. I did the walk path and river cruise and both offered amazing scenery.

If you ever go on the Haruru Falls and Waitangi River Tour Maori Waka remember to say "Hi" to Judy Mihaka. Here is a lady who is so very sharp, dedicated and who takes care of her customers. My tale of woe begins with me booking the tour a month before I was actually to arrive. Judy noticed this and... More

There hadn't been rain for a while when we went and people said there wouldn't be much to see but it was lovely. You can walk right down and onto the top of the falls. Lots of places to sit and have an icecream! Watched the people kayaking at the bottom - popular thing to do in these parts.

Well it make sense doesn't it - :-) - Still a little different than you average view even at this time of year though

I visited here just after a cruise through the bay of islands as I had an hour spare. They are only a short drive out of Paihia (some backpackers were even walking it). The falls themselves aren't overly impressive compared to other ones in NZ, but they are very accessible.

Falls were not as good as some others that I have been to. A let down. Close to Paihia about 10 minutes drive.

We did a quick visit of these falls, and even after 7 weeks of no rain they were flowing significantly! So that was great to see, and people were still swimming in the water hole beneath. The area has a good car park and nice shady areas. A good stop over spot for the traveller.

We came across Haruru Falls on our way out of Paihia, so it was a nice little surprise and worth a look. If you take the right path you get to the falls and if you take the left path, it leads to a scenic walk through the bush. The cockerels and chickens wandering around were an added bonus and... I was expecting these falls to be pretty amazing as I had heard about them before my visit. The fall is only a few meters and really nothing special. Apparently it hasn't rained in the area for 3 months so that could be a reason for the falls not being so fabulous as there is less water in the river.
