Nice little place to relax
Jul 2021
Not very big but has a several points of interest in it. However if you aren't there to sit and relax it won't take you long to get through it.

Went there to look and get some shade, lovely seating areas and the gardens are super. Loved the water wheel.

Quiet and sombre without being morbid.
Feb 2021
As above, a quiet place where there is so much to take in and see, spread all around you, take the time to read the plaques placed by many who were there or experienced the 1931 earthquake.
Happy to sit and thinks here.

Going down
Jul 2020
It was a bit different having the garden below street level. I came by through the beach walkway through the Reef Gardens. The area is actually quite tranquil and very peaceful. There were quite a few flowers and plants even though it was winter. I quite liked the waterwheel and the water feature which passes through the garden. The sculpture in the middle was very different. There were a few benches but otherwise it didn't look like it was a good idea to sit on the grass. It is quite close to the information center so probably a good place to visit especially if you are roaming the beach area.

Nice gardens

A pleasant walk through the garden area, although we were out of season. This would be a real treat in summer

A Real Splash of Colour
Mar 2020
The Sunken Gardens are a great place to sit, relax and watch the world go by. The gardens are well maintained and the splash of colour when we were there in March was stunning. Combined with a walk along the Marine Parade in the sunshine - lovely.

Lovely but small garden at one end of the marine parade. Beautifully kept and great for a rest and to admire the views.

Magnificent flower garden
Jan 2020
Just along from our hotel was the sunken garden and as we used the front everyday e saw it again and again. The flowers are so attracive and the formal setting lovely with plenty of seating.

Vibrant splash of colour
Feb 2020
This garden is small, but if you are wandering along the Marine Parade, then it is definitely worth a visit. The beds are beautifully laid out and maintained and provide a vibrant splash of colour in the urban environment. It has a peaceful vibe and is a lovely spot to stop for a rest.
