The road to the East Cape is bumpy some parts not sealed but just take your time as the scenery is worth it. There are unspoilt beaches, rolling hills and farms, we also saw many seals enjoying the beach, locals are friendly on the road...More

East Cape Lighthouse is located on the eastern most tip of New Zealand, is the most easterly lighthouse in the world and about 20 minutes drive from Te Araroa. Te Araroa itself is a 2 hour drive north of Gisborne. We visited the lighthouse on...More

After the 21km drive over some gravel roads almost missed the signs to the walk. 800 steps will take you to the Lighthouse which will not disappoint the view is awesome.

Pretty cool to check out the Eastern lighthouse in the World! Had the chance to do the walk while I was travelling with Stray hop on hop off bus to explore this remote area of NZ. Beautiful views from up there!

Well worth the walk up the hill 800 steps. Would be slippery when wet. Spectacular drive in, many things to see grey beaches and camp sites

A bit off the beaten track but the road, although gravel, isn't too arduous. Parts of it are a little rough but take your time, especially past the free range horses and cows! Parking is near a farmhouse and then a steep climb up too...More

It is a magical place. Especially before sunrise :) Peaceful. 800 steps to get there. I won't say it's easy but it's worth it. The worst part of that trip is the horrible gravel road leading to the Cape. If your car isn't in a...More

Racing up at the end of the day before the sun set, we were delighted to catch the view from the lighthouse.

Don't let the gravel road put you off. I went out there on a motorbike with my wife on the back. It is well worth the visit. A fair few steps to the lighthouse, so make sure you get there in plenty of time to...More

No tours that I'm aware of. It's not a place tourists visit often due to long drive - only 1% of all tourists drive the coast road from Opotiki to Te Araroa where road to lighthouse is. The single lane road in is narrow and... More

It would be a whole day out but there are other attractions along the way - including a very long wharf. There are a few eateries but they are fairly basic. There is a nice manuka honey place just beyond the little town... More
