St. Mary's grew too small and Holy Trinity Cathedral was built. (The organ is still being completed and seeking people to help purchase the pipes.) The glorious stained glass windows are fantastic and fill the majestic space with windows over looking the harbor and city. The modern lights remind me of stars in the constellation. Refresh yourself here before walking... More

I love coming to the cathedral fir some serenity. The beautiful woodwork of the ceilings is lovely to look at. The magnificent organ and its pipes produce a magnificent sound.

If you are a "church tourist" you have to add this to your list. First part of Cathedral was started in 1970s to look old cathedralish with vaulted cielings and red brick exterior, then in 1990s they added on a modern open floor plan, white cement exterior, with a modern water sculpture out front. Then to add to this glorious... More

Stunning stained glass windows in the colourful art style of the Maoris! Some parts are Gothic, others are full of delicious Polynesian and Mauri symbols, which make this cathedral so breath-taking. Look back, where you will find the Great Window of the Polynesian Christ (with vividly coloured Pacific motifs) and the Rose Window. Furniture is simple. The atmosphere created by... More

No visit to the city of Auckland would be complete without seeing this beautiful modern building. Its most outstanding feature is stunning stained glass windows. The Great Window of the Polynesian Christ, which needs to be viewed from the inside, is purported to be the largest expanse of stained glass in the Southern Hemisphere, and is by a local Artist.... The cathedral is a mixture of ancient gothic with the soaring vaulted roof of the choir . Leading to a more modern main body of this beautiful building soft grey stone walls and magnificent stain glass windows in the art style of the Maoris cast a pool of colours upon the floor . The modern glass font shimmers , the... More

We initially headed off to the old wooden church of St Mary's as the Cathedral looks a bit average from the outside. But inside there is a modern church with a gothic style and magnificent stained glass windows. An Auckland highlight.

My husband and I visit cathedrals and churches in almost every town or city we visit. We stopped here off the Hop Off bus. We were so pleased we took the time. The choir area is Gothic, but then they ran out of money and finished the nave (seating area) later. It is beautiful, light and airy with wood ceilings.... More

Great to learn about the move of St Mary's from across the road! Wow! What an undertaking! And to experience the design challenges involved in adding new design features into the new cathedral, whilst maintaining the traditional layout/function of an "Anglican" church. These are "must see" venues!
