Went to this museum to check out their artifacts in the classical section. The front desk kindly explained the whole donation entrance fee which made life easier for me. The museum itself is well laid out and easy to pick to see what you want. The top most level which is the war section is awe inspiring and very touching.... More

I did not have time to peruse the whole museum, but it's covers many subjects from art to natural history to geology. You're bound to find something that interests you here. Easy to get to and a beautiful place with nice grounds for a picnic when the wind isn't blowing.

The building is majestic, I'll give you that. Now for the museum itself, we were a bit disappointed ; there are - way - too many different expositions ; most of them are interesting and show a lot of diversity in the items presented, while some others look incomplete as secluded in a tiny room in a corner of the... Excellent trip down memory lane... Trip through the decades of Nz music, music clips, music to pick up, album covers to recreate, lots of fun too. Missed Jenny Morris and Margaret Urlich, and MiSex.. But quite a bit to cover I imagine. Well worth the visit, if a little expensive.. 25 dollars!

Really enjoyed the ground floor exhibition, there were some beautiful artefacts from the original inhabitants of the area. The second and third floors felt like they lacked as compared to the bottom floor. We are both very interested in the history of war but found there wasn't much in these exhibitions. The memorial for fallen soldiers was very tastefully done... More

This museum is referred to as Auckland Museum in some books and magazines and in others it is referred to as the Auckland War Memorial. Collections on the three floors include displays on New Zealand's history, natural history (good display on volcano's) the Maori's, art work and yes, the military history, which included how the different wars impacted those who... Great way to spend a rainy day in Auckland. This building is absolutely beautiful. The Maori history and displays were excellent and the war museum was very informative and well displayed. Would definitely visit again.

This is a good review of New Zealand history and culture. The volcano is the best. Realize that NZ is on the Ring of Fire for Pacific volcanic activity.
