This is an exceptional Gallery. James Wallace has made a very significant contribution towards encouraging young New Zealand artists and by collecting theie work over many years. This is quite diferent from the collection strategy of publicly funded galleries. The setting is splendid showing off Auckland volcani geological heritage.

While the contemporary pieces inside the house and the sculptures in the garden might not be to everybody's taste they are interesting enough - add on the lovely building and the grounds (and the sensible cafe) and this is a great visit. The colonial mansion and the lovely grounds with some nice views are a charming oasis in a frantic... More

I'd lived in Auckland for 19 years before finding out about Pah Homestead. Fortuitously a very culturally wise friend mentioned it, and it turned out to be only a couple of suburbs from where I am now living. It is a beautiful building, still situated in expansive grounds, including decent off-road car parking. The only negative to the homestead being... More

Get out of the city center and head with bus #299 on K. Road and head to the Wallace for an afternoon of Kiwi art, history and a bite to eat. It's FREE! The park surrounding the center is lovely and the house has a rich history. It is a lovely excursion out of the city proper. the gift shop... More

We had a lovely lunch from the menu, with prompt service and reasonably priced. The art is rather avant guard, but housed in a beautiful historic house, so worth wandering through just for the architecture. The grounds of the house are expansive and we'll worth a wander. There is a good sized car park with large grassed areas for kids... More

It's not in the centre of Auckland but it is worth an hour or two of your time if you are interested in history, architecture, landscaped gardens or modern painting, photography and sculpting. Huge ancient trees, rolling lawns, a splendid old mansion were for us the main attraction. About ten rooms and corridors are devoted to paintings and photography, with... More

I shared lunch today here with a friend. Parking is easy and there is a relaxed charm about this place which is not easy to find in a city. Our lunch consisted of two sandwiches on a type of Turkish bread which were toasted for us. When the cafe worker brought them to our table, they looked quite unmanageable for... More

The Monte Cecelia Park and historical Pah Homestead is still a much underused area of Auckland, housing the TSB Bank Wallace Arts Centre and Pah Café. This tourist gem is closed each Monday and unfortunately this also applies to Public holidays such as the recent Christmas/New Year period. Last visit to the café was in the early afternoon in August... More
