Completed in 1870, this delightful Victorian Gothic landmark was completely restored in 2005. It is the only convict-built capital city town hall in Australia, and a fragment of the original convict roll is on permanent display in the foyer with other City of Perth memorabilia. Generally open 11:00AM-1:00PM weekdays, but phone 08 9229 2965 first because it is sometimes closed for private functions. Free historic tour every Thursday at 2:00PM.

the whole block has been restored to its historical best and to a very high standard, plenty of coffee shops and places to eat and free toilets, right next to the mall.

Town Hall was built by convict labour - they did an excellent job. The tower has a clock face on each of the 4 sides, which I'm told is unusual. There are boards on the ground floor giving historical information relating to the building. I...More

If you can get past of the unpleasant smells that seem to permeate the undercroft area where it would seem that some people choose to "relieve" themselves rather than finding the urinal the inside of the Town Hall is very nice. Looking at some of...More

The Town Hall is a lovely building now looking in great condition and with lots of useful detail on the plaques around the base. It was built in the style of a British Market Hall so the ground floor is open arches designed for market...More

This is a fine old building in a city with few old buildings. We did not see any way into it but we viewed it from above (our hotel, next door, pool overlooked it) and from outside.

Include on your down town walking tour. Built by convicts this is an attractive building which stills stands proud surrounded by modern looming structures. Thanks for the vote if you found this review helpful.

Perth had many beautiful buildings, most of them were destroyed, and replaced by new rubbish. but we still have a few old buildings and this is one of them. The building is still used for exhibitions.

It is a nice old building and one of few in the city, close to a fairly tacky mall and has some history that is described on various signs outside.

I was somewhat surprised to learn that this building is the only Town Hall in Australia to be built using convict labour although free men were also involved in construction. Work commenced in 1867 and was competed in 1870. I had the good fortune to...More

Wander around the outside to learn more about Perths history- many plaques on the walls and ground tell the story of the town hall. Great photo opportunities from lots of angles
