Description:

Monkey Mia is one of Western Australia's icon tourism experiences...

Monkey Mia is one of Western Australia's icon tourism experiences attracting around 100,000 visitors a year. Monkey Mia is one of the few locations in Australia to see wild dolphins, get close to them and have an opportunity to feed one. In addition, visitors can learn a lot about these endearing creatures at the Monkey Mia Visitor Centre, which provides information about the dolphins and other features of the surrounding Shark Bay Marine Park in the interpretation display or movie playing in the air-conditioned theatrette.

Visitors are also able to buy unique gifts and souvenirs or book a boat charter in the Shark Bay Marine Park, enabling them to see not only dolphins but also dugongs, manta rays, turtles and other marine species. Similarly, local indigenous guides offer cultural tours of the reserve. Visitors can also walk the Wulyibidi Yaninyina walk trail to further explore the area.

Could only go for a day as accomodation was full including camp sites. Got some good dolphin photos and underwater go pro shots as they played close to beach. We had lunch at the resort which was nice and reasonable value however found the general cafe area a bit tired and dirty.

Very confusing place to get around. NO toilets at the entry, gift shops or dolphin feeding area, you have to take a hike to the resort end and search for toilets there. The staff were helpful enough though. Don't expect to go there and actually feed the dolphins or interact with them at all. They do 3 dolphin feeds a... More

Spent Christmas Day and Boxing Day here back in 2011. It was a beautiful sunny day and my mates and I drove up to it at about 9 in the morning the beach is beautiful and we also saw the magnificent blue lagoon. The Dolphins unfortunately didn't show up during our visit but it was still a trip none of... More

A glorious day, excellent catamaran and captained by a man who knows the waters well. Three hour cruise starts with a visit to the pearl farm, learned so much about pearl farming and opal coating, oyster meat not bad either. Then out into the waters, and the captain knew exactly where to find the rae and elusive dugongs, (sea Cow).... More

Wow what an amazing privilege!!! Spontaneously booked this activity and it far exceeded our expectations. Skippers were well informed and enthusiastically entertained and educated all aboard. Dolphins, sea turtles, sponge dolphins and dugongs were all included in the repertoire of surprises. Pearl farm visit added to our knowledge of shark bay . Definitely a must do adventure!!!!!

The dolphins at Monkey Mia sure are the super stars of this little place. It is enchanting to watch them zoom along the waters edge catching fish for themselves. Make sure you go to at least one of the feedings run by rangers & amazing volunteers as the talk is very informative.

The long drive into shark bay and the dolphin experience are clearly worth it. Cool to see these animals so close up. We went very early since all travel guides we have been reading suggested to be there at 7.30. We were there with a massive crowd but learned that there are two more encounters later. Those we much quieter... More

Monkey Mia is famous for its dolphins. They come to be fed by hand, which can be quite thrilling. Shark Bay is 880 kms (550 miles) from Perth. A non-stop drive would take around 10 hours. You are not going to do it by yourself in one day. Please remember that the dolphins are wild animals, they don't work to... More
