We really lucked out when we decided to take a tour out to Lake Ballard from Kalgoorlie with Baz from "Big Sky Red Earth Adventures". An extraordinary experience seeing the Antony Gormley sculptures dotted across the salt with red tracks made by footprints leading from one figure to the next. With the heat rising the horizon was shimmering and the... More

We took the detour to Menzies and Lake Ballard a few weeks ago as part of our drive around Australia and we were very happy we did. Looking for way out of the way experiences and travel, this certainly fit the bill as there is a great small community here in the outback with not much else around it for... More

White occupation of the Menzies area dates back about 100 years with the main activity being centred around the Railway line and Mining. Transportation has changed from rail to mainly road and so the local town is struggling to attract business. The statues at Lake Ballard, are different being re-proportioned representations of locals. It is worth looking at this attraction... More

Heading through Menzies we got to our camp ground at Lake Ballard. Set up two sites with the family and enjoyed the serenity. Camp fires allowed and long drop toilet facilities. Statues and climb up the hill are great.

I has wanted to see for a while and had the chance. It might have been raining and the statues were in an inch of water.. This made it even more delightful. Great experience, highly recommended.

Visiting Kalgoorlie so made the trip out to Menzies to view Lake Ballard, it was amazing and well worth the effort. Stunning photo opportunites, just make sure you have ideal footwear because it can be a bit slippery on the salt lakes.

What an incredible feat of artistry that these unique statues have withstood the harsh Australian climate

What a pretty place. We set up our campers for the the night in the rain and luckily for us it then stopped. So some with shoes and some without, we walked out to many of the statues and around the island. Slippery, muddy and dirty but we had a lot of fun. Old clothes a must and I went... More

We were staying overnight at a campground in Kalgoorlie and for us, this was a day trip from Kalgoorlie via Menzies. Most of the 51 km stretch from Menzies to Lake Ballard is unsealed but we had no difficulty navigating this road with our large camper van. Surprisingly, Lake Ballard was deserted and we had the entire magnificent site/work of... More
