The Astor is one of the last single screen movie palaces left in the world, showing movies continuously since being built in 1936, and transporting you to a time when going to the movies was an event.

Not because of the best and latest box office hit on maxidrom 3d screens. But because of atmosphere. This cinema has a resident pet cat. Home made popcorn. Chandeliers and a balconie. All in the original 30-style. Love it. Add to this great value for...More

Highly recommend a trip to the classic Astor Theatre. The tickets are very cheap and the theatre itself is beautifully decorated. It also has its own resident cat! Architecture and theatre buffs can not afford to miss an Astor visit.

I was blown away with how the cinema has been caught in time. A huge building with one screen. Went to see Wild at Heart and so reminiscent of the cinema that I work at that offers cult screenings, no matter the turn out. Ticket...More

The Astor Theatre is a bijou gem, an Art Deco relic saved from "development" and still providing the kind of warm experience of movie-going that the best home theatres aspire to, and the modern multiplexes dream of but fail to deliver. The velvet plush ambience...More

Look at the schedule well in advance as they have a range of movies. It's like stepping back in time. The seats could be more comfortable but it's an amazing experience. Melbourne is lucky to have the Astor.

What a fantastic venue and event! Such a great 24 hours we had here dressed in our Potter gear with our pillows and blankets and snacks. The Astor Theatre staff were amazing and we had so much fun at Potterfest, the atmosphere was magic, just...More

A grand olde cinema. It still has the original seats and fixtures. The only downside is parking can be a challenge but it's worth the hassle, just allow extra time and if you have time have a drink in the adjoining cafe/bar.

The Astor is the wrong side of town for us to visit often, but where there is something special on ( and the Astor works to find those special events) then it is well worth the trip. There is a special ambiance in the place,...More

We visited the Astor on Christmas Eve to watch "Its a Wonderful Life". It was a brilliant start to Christmas in a beautiful old theatre!

Hi Anne The calendar for The Astor is not prepared quite that far ahead. Sadly it also appears the theatre will be closing some time this year, so check their website closer to the time.
