The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is Australia's largest, oldest and most...

The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is Australia's largest, oldest and most popular sporting venue. The MCG has hosted plenty of international cricket, including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, the 1956 Olympic Games and 2006 Commonwealth Games. It also hosted the final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. Other sporting spectacles include FIFA World Cup soccer qualifiers, rugby league home and away matches and State of Origin and international rugby union clashes. Apart from its sporting events, the MCG has also witnessed many blockbuster music concerts, and even Pope John Paul II held a mass there when he visited Melbourne in 1986. The MCG has a total capacity of 100,024 people, comprising 95,024 seats and 5000 standing room spaces. The stadium also houses the National Sports Museum, which includes some of the most priceless pieces of memorabilia in Australian sporting history.

We have visited the "G" many times over the last few years. Have attended test cricket and AFL matches, and always enjoy the great facilities. We use public transport to the ground, thus avoiding the hassle and expense of parking. Don't forget your hats and sunscreen, especially if attending a day/night cricket match. We have also visited the sports museum... More

As an avid AFL fan, I love coming to the MCG. The venue is massive; they have their own museum and tour (which I highly recommend) and the multitude of sports events they have here means that it's in use year-round. People come from all over Australia to see the MCG so it's well-worth seeing.

My experience of the MCG was made memorable simply because of the friends I went with. It made everything fun and exciting when the team you're rooting wins!

Went alone to watch some evening cricket. Got chatting to people around me. Couldn't decide who to support Australia or Sri Lanka!! Had some food and a beer.

Loved this venue. Great acoustics for such a huge stadium. Was able to exit fairly painlessly. Very pretty.

Spectacular venue for watching a sporting event. Great holding capacity which is assisted by close public transport links. Food is very pricey but thats no surprise at these types of venues.

I took my couchsurfer to see some Big Bash cricket at the G. It kept his interest for a maximum of about 20 mins while I explained the rules etc. Lucky I didn't take him to a test match!

Thank Kawaskuri
