I was surprised the tour was on with only me! Delightful lady picked me up at the Pullman Hotel. Was then offered tea/coffee & bickies before being taken by a lovely, knowledgeable lady on a personal tour of this beautiful house with so many rooms filled with Johnston's collections. What a fascinating man. Highly recommend.

Well run and efficient tour, very knowledgeable tour guide. A insight into Johnstone's life and a reminder of how early Australia enabled those with a poor start in life could, by their own efforts, achieve their dreams, his mother was most certainly a remarkable woman. Well worth a visit.

I visited the Johnstone Collection's "Return to the City" last year. When I heard that for the first time the trust was displaying Mr Johnstone's own collection of furniture in the house, I decided I needed to return. A friend and I were lucky enough to get Suzanne as our guide and she was an excellent font of information. We... More

This Collection of Georgian, Regency and Louis XV furniture and numerous household items is a joy to visit and takes only a short 1 1/2 to 2 hours. William Johnston had accumulated so much treasure that The Collection is changed three times each year to accommodate it. Lovers of beautiful things will appreciate his dedication to seeking out treasures from... More

Must book online in advance. This collection is in a residential neighborhood so the address cannot be published. Instead, a shuttle van picked us up from a nearby hotel and drove a very short distance to the residence. The shuttle driver was friendly and punctual. My husband and I were the only ones on the tour on a Thursday, which... More

I was looking something and unique thing to do in Melbourne, when I found this on Atlas Obscura. I love Georgian and Regency antiques so that was really cool, unfortunately the Christmas tour was not about the antiques in the house. Rather it was tour about artists, mostly local, that were inspired by the collection. I found it really interesting,... More

It is a bit of difiicult to categorise the Johnston Collection - it may be described as a 'gallery' or a 'museum' or an 'artist's space' - whatever description is given to it, it is fantastic. The house is devoted to displaying an eclectic antique collection, and is also available to various artists to create their own impression of the... More

I had tried to visit the Johnston Collection for several years through the ballot run by Open House but was never successful. When I saw an advertisement offering a tour of the new Christmas Show 2016, I jumped at the chance and booked my ticket on-line. As another poster has said, the Trust is very specific about the arrival at... More

My visit to the collection was disappointing. I was looking forward to seeing the house and the collection but the special exhibition did not fulfil expectations. Many of the interesting features of the collection were shrouded in cloth and the light was so low that it was often difficult to see what the guide as talking about. The guide was... More

Dear Stephanie, Thanks for your feedback and we were sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your recent tour of The Johnston Collection. The Johnston Collection is no ordinary house-museum. We offer three different interpretations of William Johnston’s collection throughout the year. Each presents his collection in a fresh way – engaging new and diverse audiences as well as... More
