I often take visitors to see this easily accessible and fine piece of aboriginal rock art. In a cavern in the rock the painted Bunjil figure sits with his two dingos beside him. Bunjil is the creator deity and this painting has great significance for the aboriginal people. The area has a 'spiritual' feel. Large boulders and dry bushland surround... More

Bunjils Shelter or Cave is a site of Aboriginal wall painting. It is quite close to Stawell. There is a car park, unisex toilet and nothing else but peace and flies. It is a huge shame that the actual artwork is now protected by an industrial standard fence. It's rather like an animal at the zoo. It has been defaced... More

First rock art I've ever seen and it was incredible to think of the history this could represent. Only 100m from the car park but a bit out of the way of the main Hall's Gap attractions,... More

One of the most interesting aboriginal rock art paintings in Victoria, though not very large. There was nobody else visiting but it was pretty easy to find.

We visited the Shelter when we went from Halls Gap, Grampians back to Melbourne by car. The shelter is only half an hour drive from Halls Gap. Easy to find and worth a visit. We went there in the morning and the view from the mountain was amazing. Mountains covered by clouds. The painting is well kept. Bunjil is the... More
