Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

Is there anything better then a play in the pool on a hot day. The grounds are lovely and the view to the harbour is nice. Lovely that some things on holiday don't have to cost the earth

The pool is clean and well maintained. Because of crocs in the water they have put this pool on the foreshore and it’s great. The kids loved it a great spot to cool down after walking around Cairns.

The moment we found the lagoon my daughter wanted to go there every day, it was a dream come true for her. The lagoon was clean and well supervised with life savers. So we went there every day !

Right on the waterfront, bordered by a lovely boardwalk, The Lagoon is a small lake of sparkling clear water maintained by the city . A delightful, refreshing place for a dip to take the edge off the heat on a hot day
