Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

the office staff are the same as walking country so be wary if you are looking at their tours. i would not recommend them, they like to take your money and then treat you like crap. 1 star is too much for this company

I paid (in full) for this trip but due to Covid-19 have been unable to travel. I requested a refund in June 2021 but 7 months later the company has not returned my money. They have even stopped acknowledging my emails. I find this totally unacceptable as they have AU$1854 of my money.

Made a booking in Aug 2021 of which was cancelled 2 Sep 2021 by the company. Still waiting for refund and keep getting given the runaround by the company. Happy to take the money and acknowledge they need to refund but am still waiting. Have contacted the company multiple times but keep getting blown off , last excuse " I have emailed the finance manager and unfortunately cannot advise you until I hear back". No customer service as that was 2 months ago.

My sister and I bought a day trip to Litchfield with Wayoutback Safaris at the start of 2020. We weren’t able to complete the trip due to the impacts of COVID but were promised a refund by the company at the time. It is now almost two years later and despite multiple disregarded emails, emails promising that a refund will be issued shortly and no contact phone number - in addition to an email from the CEO asking customers not to post complaints on social media due to the impacts of COVID on the company - we are yet to receive a refund. The company continues to operate, distributing a “skeleton staff” out of office email, all the while bringing out new tour offerings, but refuses to refund customers who are also struggling to contend with the impacts of COVID - the effects of the pandemic have affected the livelihoods of customers in addition to companies. I sympathise with companies struggling at this time but it is not fair to hold onto the funds of customers who are unable to experience a company’s services.

We booked this tour in April with the border closure refund policy in mind. We paid our balance at the end of August, and just over a week later got an email saying our tour was cancelled. We were asked if we wanted a date change or refund. We asked for a refund. For the next six weeks following this, despite us emailing, messaging, calling etc, we only heard back once. I ended up having to contact NT consumer affairs (speak to Amanda - she was a great help) who provided me with other avenues to pursue. We of course understand that the current time is hard for tourism businesses such as this, however, a little communication goes a long way. Not hearing anything back, we feared we would never see our $4000 and they were ignoring us to be dodgy. I finally got my money back yesterday after saying my next step was to go to VCAT and lodge a legally binding order for a refund. The whole experience was really stressful. Communication would have completely changed the course of how we felt about this situation and what we needed to do to rectify it.

Taking this tour from Jabiru, we spent around 30 minutes on board driving to pick up other passengers before heading off to the Fall. I say Fall as, although it's advertised as going to Twin Falls - it did not. Twin Falls had been closed all season! No forewarning or price reduction. Onwards towards Jin Jin Falls the air-conditioner broke down. It was a sunny 37 degree day and we had about 90minutes drive time to get to the first stop, a toilet break. Inside the back cabin people were suffering with heat stroke and would have been at least 50 degrees. Had to get the guide to pull over as a young lady was overcome by the heat. Getting off the bus the air outside felt cool even though it was 37°! Another 25mins inside the hot box to get to the Falls felt like hours as the road was terrible, not the tours fault. The walk (read climb) to the Falls after being so hot was very difficult. Then the bus broke down 5mins after leaving the falls, but the guide and others managed to get it back on the road. Back on the hot bus for about an hour or so we met up with a substitute bus which thankfully had working air conditioning. I have requested a partial/full refund on several occasions, without success, as this tour was not as advertised and we had quite a distressing day.

Absolutely amazing and immersive small group experience! They are the real deal. With a max of 16 ppl in a 4wd bus, you’re guaranteed lots of adventure & going off the beaten track. They really know what they’re doing. We did their 3 Day/ 2 Night Kakadu tour.
We can’t speak highly enough of our tour guide Leigh. His wealth of local knowledge across land and country, culture and animals was so educational and he has a great sense of humour & such a positive happy energy. He has so much passion and loves sharing everything he knows with his guests.
Leigh was also very flexible and accommodating to our needs and the changing weather. Thank you so much Leigh for tweaking our itinerary to make everyone comfortable when it hit 39 degrees and we needed some extra swim time! Thank you so much!

My husband and I went on the Uluru, Kata Tjuta & Kings Canyon tour in early September 2021. Our guide was Robert (Robbie) and we were very impressed by his enthusiasm, passion, knowledge and consideration of each individual in his care. Robert put our safety first above all else in every situation; he didn’t rush us and he was always trying to make the trip our best experience possible - thank you Robert. We loved all the Spring wildflowers, Aboriginal art and culture, and the magnificent colours and rock shapes. The food on the trip was great and it was a wonderful experience.

What a wonderful trip. We travelled with friends and made new friends in our group. The scenery, the companionship, and the fun experiences along the way made it so memorable. But by far the best thing about this trip was Robert our tour guide, he worked tirelessly to show us our beautiful country, to feed us, to encourage us to do things we hadn’t planned (like spend the night in swags) and now we’re so grateful to him for an experience we could have missed. It was a fantastic trip. Thank you Robert. This trip is adventurous but worth it.

Hi we have booked the 4 day 3 night outback tour which involves sleeping in swag. Is the swag fully sealed as I have read your face is exposed but I am quite scared of insects etc!

The swag was heavy duty and zipped all the way up. I took insect spray (Bushman’s) and none came near! Just sleep away from twigs and trees. I’d reckon taking an extra pillow.

We are a family of 3 interested in the 2 day Ayers trip and were wondering if there was storage on the bus for our 6 travel bags? We would be picked up in Alice Springs with your excursion but would need to be dropped off at the Ayers Airport, thus the need to schlep all our bags on the bus.
Thanks

Hi, if we sleep in swags, is it possible in August? It could be very cold in the night, or? Is the swag warm enough?

Hi,
I am interested in the 3-Day red center camping Safari from Alice springs.
I have some questions about this trip:
- what is the limited number of persons?
- how do we do to book this safari?
Thank you for your answers.

Hi Borbeauo,
The 3 Day Red Centre camping safari is a maximum of 24 passengers and you can book this via TripAdvisor or by contacting Wayoutback directly via our website.
Thank you

Hello Melissa H,
first of all thank you so much for your answers and recommendations.
I looked the 3-day safari camping and it seems to be exactly what we are expecting.
Also I wanted to make sure about some details:
we will come with my parents and they are older than 50 is it a problem concerning the sleeping part?
moreover is it a maximum of 24 persons for this trip?
are the walks the same than in the 4- day camping safari?
thanks in advance.

Hello again Borbeauo,
Our 3 Day camping safari is an 18-40 age recommended tour. There is no age restriction, however your parents need to be aware that they will be travelling with a group of young adventure travellers - primarily backpackers - and need to be prepared for what that entails: quite a fast paced tour, on board a mini bus, sleeping in swags on the ground and quite basic meals.
Your parents will need to be fit and active and capable of travelling over 6 kilometres per day. Any medical conditions must be declared at the time of booking.
This tour is a maximum of 24 passengers.
The hikes are exactly the same as the 4 Day camping tour - so day 1 is the walk at the base of Uluru, day 2 is the Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta and day 3 is the full rim walk at Kings Canyon.
We do also have our 3 Day 4WD tour which is Open Aged and includes permanent tents with twin camp beds, a smaller tour group, 4WD vehicle and a few additional extras including the Maraku Cultural Experience and our Endless Star Dining Experience if you think this will be more suitable for your parents.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions at all.

Hi, we are a group of 4 and we are interested by the "4-Day Red Center Camping Safari from Alice Springs or Ayers Rock Including Kings Canyon".
I would like to have more information about this trip:
- Is there a limit number of passengers ?
- What exactly contains the swag?
- Will we be walking in the Olgas?
- What is the walk in Kings Canyon?
Finally is it possible to stay in Alice Springs on day 4 and not going back to Ayers Rock?
Thank you very much for your answers.

I am doing a tour with sleeping bags provided but as I feel the cold am concerned that it well not be good enough and could bring a bag rated for 0 or -2 degrees. On the other hand I appreciate that the extra luggage is probably unwelcome. What are the sleeping bags like/rated?
Melissa H
Adelaide, Australia4 contributions
Hi argare, thanks for your question!
Our sleeping bags in the Red Centre are rated to -5 degrees so they are suitable for the current temperatures in Central Australia. We do recommend that you pack some warm clothes to wear to bed as well such as track pants, a beanie and a sweater just to ensure that you are as comfortable as possible.
We hope you enjoy your tour with us!

I am going to the red centre in September. I feel the cold. Should I bring my own sleeping bag?

They have some to borrow. If you feel the cold easily, bring along polar fleece jumper. We lugged our sleeping bags but was very annoying and it was too hot in the summer. Wear layered snow polar fleece. You can always ask for two sleeping bags if you get really cold.

Hi, is it possible/allowed to bring a drone on the Kangeroo Dreaming tour? Would be nice!
Melissa H
Adelaide, Australia4 contributions
Hi Dirk,
I apologise for the belated reply! You will need to ensure that you contact Parks Australia and ask them about any restrictions that they may have with regards to where you can and cannot fly a drone, film or photograph.
Please also be aware that if they do give you approval for a drone, the drone will be your responsibility whilst on tour and it is VERY dusty in the outback.
Hope this helps :)
