The place consists of hotel restaurant and bar. On the first floor, there is a large bar and a small dining room. The second floor dining offers a place for larger group. The staff is efficient, friendly. The food is good.

Awesome historic Hotel that has been allowed to retain all its character, immaculately run with great staff, serving up an array of craft beers as well as great pint of Guinness and of course excellent pub grub. It is loved by locals and visitors alike...More

This what the Poms did at Waterloo. The Hero must be one of my favourite bars in Sydney and has a distinct old world charm founded by the legendary Ivan Nelson and continued by his wife, Kazuko. Lots of interesting beer and better still live...More

Super cool and historic location for a quick pint or two on a Thursday evening. Carries most (maybe all?) James Squire beers and cider on tap. Yum!

We had lunch there in the warm afternoon of a sunny winter day, the pub was quiet and cosy. The food was good and the barman was nice. He gave me good advice to choose my beer. We liked the historic atmosphere.

Very friendly and welcoming pub just a stones throw from the hustle and bustle of Circular Quay. Pub food and a great range of ales, not just fizzy lagers

One of the oldest pubs in Sydney I believe. Definitely worth a visit if only for a drink. We had dinner there. Traditional pub food, limited choice for vegetarians & anyone with specific dietary needs. We had steaks and they were good, not great, with...More

What a shame this fabulous old pub is spoiled by rip off prices. After buying beers in other pubs at the Rocks for $6 schooner, at the Hero it was close to $9. And to really rub it in they wanted a $5 surcharge to...More

Great little place with a historic vibe backed up with excellent customer service. Music with a live band roped the night off, I will definitely go again!

Hello, I have quite a bizarre question for any of the staff who know Johhny Wray, my father in law, from the United Kingdom believes he went to school with Johhny, in London at Trinity Grammar, north London in the early Fifties. I live in Melbourne and Gerald Fanthorpe my farther in law will be visiting Australia in a few weeks. This is a bizarre request but if you can get the message to Johhny, maybe they can have a reunion? Thanks Matt Ashman
