My sister .and I were brought up within walking distance of this terrific family friendly beach. We learnt to swim and gain confidence in the sometime rough waters. Usually it was like a mill pond, going into the water from the Prom and swimming back to the sand beach area. Lots of happy times exploring the old -late 1800s early... More

The locals say it is good to snorkel and swim. It truly looked calm and swim able. But it also looked really dirty to me. I don't think I would do. Too many other places to enjoy blue clean waters in Australia.

This is a man made beach with concreted banks which enables snorkelled to jump straight into deep water. It is enclosed slightly so little chance of getting washed out to sea. So much fun. Plus there is a natural dog pouch pool for adventurous pooches. Fun to watch. Georgeous cafe nestled in bushy landscape. A tiny shallow beach. A pool.... More

A wonderful safe beach in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. I was there today, enjoying a swim, it is my regular beach. It is a very safe beach for small children, all the family & a great spot for those who just want to watch the water. I did't see the big Blue Groper today but he is usually there... More

I grew up in Clovelly, learned to swim the and was a long time active member of the Surf Club and Eskimos Winter Swimming Club (and Life Member of both). It is an absolute gem for families being protected and very safe and is ideal for snorkeling. For the more adventurous there is a scuba diving trail off Clovelly and... More

Great spot for snorkeling in Sydney. I'm not a good swimmer but Clovelly is easy for pp even like me! There is a few options of fishes and the water is clear, easy to see them.

Staying in Coogee

Neighbourhood Profile
Coogee
Very accessible by public transport, Coogee is the smaller, friendlier, more intimate version of Bondi Beach. Coogee is the only beach in the Eastern suburbs that does not have big waves, making it an excellent family beach. The Coogee Bay Hotel, located right across the beach, has one of the biggest beer gardens in Australia and plenty of entertainment every night of the week. Be on the lookout for celebrity footballers! A little further south is Wylie’s Baths, offering sweeping 180 degree views over the Pacific Ocean, and it is perfect for a swim or a few laps. Plenty of dining choices surround the beach, including the famous fish and chips.
