Neighbourhood: Bondi Beach
An iconic Australian suburb, Bondi Beach is famous for its fantastic beaches and views. Once the domain of backpackers, hundreds of tourists from all over the world descend en masse to Bondi in December ready to enjoy the "Aussie summer". Bondi Beach boasts impressive ocean views all along the many restaurants and bars on Campbell Parade. Wake up early and take a dip in the surf before walking the scenic stretch from Bondi to Coogee Beach. Stroll through the Saturday organic markets in North Bondi or grab some fish and chips and relax in the grassy area opposite the beach. For more upscale cuisine, head down to Hall Street where a range of new eateries have recently opened. Just make sure to save enough energy for the buzzing nightlife Bondi Beach has to offer.

We jumped on a government bus in Sydney city centre to Bondi Beach just for day trip It's about 40-45 mins depending on traffic, but worth it to see a bit of Sydney and it's suburbs. These buses run past Bondi beach almost every 5-6 minutes so it was easy to jump on a bus back to the city. They don't take cash though so make sure you have a contactless card to board.

Bondi beach is a superbly clean beach, well guarded with experienced lifeguards to keep you safe if you're venturing into the waves, which can be very high and there's a strong RIP current to watch out for in certain parts of the beach. Best advice is swim between the flags!

The facilities are excellent, with showers and toilets all free to use in the changing area. It's a lovely building with a few shops with local artisan pottery, a small art gallery and clothing stores.

There are a few restaurants directly on the beach in this same area so easy to grab drinks, snacks or lunch without having to go to far.

Above the beach there's some good independent shops for Australian clothing/swim gear etc (go to Budgy Smugglers for some iconic Australian trunks and swimsuits).

Overall, we enjoyed the beach, and the small town. It's not huge (think Margate), but if you're a keen surfer it's ideal.

As something that is a must do on a Sydney bucket list, I had a good time. The beach is nice and there’s lots of room to spread out from others. If you want to swim, north side is for you, surfers are on the south side. It was fun watching surf school and the professionals. There are umbrellas for rent on the boardwalk - I believe the sign said $15/hr. Lots of lifeguards and surf patrol making sure everyone is ok. It enjoyed it a lot but if you want less of an “attraction” there are prettier, quieter beaches to the south of Bondi.

Such a fun time! Easily accessible by transit. Parking (especially free parking) was exceptionally hard to find. Lots of amenities around the beach - change rooms, wash rooms, restaurants, outdoor gym, water fountains, etc... The beach is patrolled by many lifeguards, so we felt very safe. The north end (farthest from the Icebergs pool) is by far the calmest area. If you are into surfing the south end is the best. This is definitely not a "float around in the water" type of beach - the waves are quite big but great for body-surfing. The actual beach can get crowded, but it is so big that finding a spot to set up is not difficult. Stay between the flags!

Amazing beach, clear water I have been here many times with my family and it is the most wonderful beach ever it is sometimes a little crowded but over all it is beautiful

Tips:
Go early in the morning it is less crowded and the sunrise is amazing
Grab an ice cream from Anita’s or Messina’s (I think Messina is better) and sit at the beach

Bondi Beach is an absolute icon! The golden sand, rolling waves, and buzzing atmosphere make it a must-visit in Sydney. The surf is amazing, but it can be dangerous if you don’t follow the flags and listen to the lifeguards—they’re there for a reason! It gets super busy, so expect crowds, but that’s part of the experience. Tip: Bring plenty of water and sunscreen because the Aussie sun is no joke!

Frankly, I am not sure what makes it so attractive to holidaymakers. But I can name at least three reasons for this. Firstly, it is located closest to the city centre, in the Bondi area, about 20 minutes by bus to the City. There is a bus from the beach to the centre. The second reason is that there is a large shopping centre not very far from the beach, so people can combine shopping with a beach holiday. There are also buses and trains from the shopping centre to the city centre. Thirdly, it is quite large, 3 times larger than Kudzhi Beach, which I wrote about earlier.

The best view and to take photos of Bondi is the high footpath on Campbell parade just near the North Bondi RSL. A beautiful view facing south.
Bondi is one of the great city beaches of the world.
It’s a majestic wide fine sand beach. There is nearly always somewhere relatively calm to swim. Pools, close to shore etc.

Bondi Beach’s full of energy and surf culture. The clear water and reliable waves combined with the breathtaking coastline makes Bondi Beach iconic and picturesque. The Graffiti Wall, which changes every now and then, complements the vibrant atmosphere of the beach as well.

So many fun things to do around the beach too! The beachside offers decent restaurants, cozy cafes and great shopping. Definitely a chill hang out place in Sydney! These all explains why Bondi Beach attracts thousands of tourists and locals to visit.

The beach is absolutely easy to access by public transport. If you’re taking a train, you can go to Bondi Junction Station first and transfer by bus. There are also different direct buses from CBD. Either way takes you 30-45 minutes.

Include this spot in your must-go list!

Bondi Beach is always worth a visit, it is very touristy and there are many other notable beaches but it is still an iconic place that is definately worth a visit whilst in the Sydney area. On our most recent stay we visited quite often in the early mornings before first light when it was busy with joggers doing the Bondi circuit. There have been some changes since the pandemic but it is still a beach that has great appeal.

Its a pristine and beautiful beach for beach surfers. Excellent beach outing for family as well as water sport enthusiasts. The well made promenade is well laid n maintained giving opportunity for joggers n fitness lovers. Wind sand with aquamarine water is a delight to our eyes. One of the very good places of interest near Sydney.
