It's a well designed memorial set on the lake's edge near the Carillon, and I was delighted to see it, as one doesn't hear too much about the merchant navy folk who suffered huge losses in both world wars, not to mention others.
It is often over looked that during all wars Merchant Seaman have given their lives to ensure that supply chains are kept going both to Australia and to the troops. It is great to see this memorial remembers those who have fallen.

I served in the Australian navy but I never saw the terrible things, lost mates, or suffered as these men did during several wars. Often wrongly forgotten, they plain a key part in keeping this nation alive when darkness covered much of the globe.
