Great castle

Located about 30 minutes south of Cesky Krumlov, this castle is worth a visit. The tours are only given in Czech, but they provide you with an English guide which is very adequate- our guide spoke English and answered our questions. Very interesting artifacts and art to see.

Rožmberk nad Vltavou
The beatiful small city close to AUT/CZ border. Founded by the one of the oldest czech aristocratic families Vitek in 13-th century passed later to ownership the House of Rozmberk, other famous aristocratic family and finaly In 1620 the town became property of Charles Bonaventure de Longueval, Count of Bucquoy. This family owned the town to 1945.
We let our car in a town square where we started our journey. The parking has space for cars of disables and it is verry nice. Except of hotel-restaurant Ruze (Rose), there was only one restaurant and the quality of dishes was not too high /if you want to eat just chips and schintel, you will not have any problem, but if you want someting more, sorry, in this town you can not find higher level of gastronomy.
In a front of parkig is a beatiful gothic style church that is, unfortunatelly, close. Visitors can make a phote just from outside. Then we travel up to the castle äcarefull! It is prohibited to travel there with a car: only cars of post can travel there. The castle is BEATIFULL. Unfortunatelly we ware Monday there whan the castle was close. But what is really more importaint and more beatifull is a view to the town. Absolutely WAU!!! Rožmberk nad Vltavou - IT MUST.
/Close to the town is lake Lipno founden by Rozberk. It is centre of sport and fishing. Amazing!!! /

Lovely castle, opening and visiting time not clear
Oct 2018 • Friends
Before every tour we do, I make sure to collect all the opening times and I did the same thing in case of Rozmberk Castle. Unfortunatelly on the internet it said: "open between 11.00-13.00". When we arrived to the gate 9 minutes after 11 a.m., the door was closed, invane we rang the bell, we could not enter the castle. In front of the gate there was a sign with the October opening times (see attached) and it turned out that there is a tour at 11 a.m. and another at 1 p.m. Does make a difference.... Anyway the little village below the castle is lovely with the "usual" main square. It is worthwhile to climb up to the castle (not a long walk) for the view from the castle. Wish I could give you information about the inside, too......

I totally enjoyed the visit. And Kids too had a great time with the stories they've been told about the castle.

Rožmberk castle
Jul 2018 • Couples
Just two weeks ago I have visited 3 very interesting historical cities in southern Bohemia in 3 days - Rožmberk nad Vltavou, then Český Krumlov and then Hluboká nad Vltavou . One day per each one. I recommend visiting them in the order mentioned above . It follows the time line - from the oldest to the youngest history.
I was something amazing and I recommend taking this trip to everyone.

Very unpleasant experience!!!
Aug 2017

We arrived to the castle 15.08.2017 and intended to spend couple of hours in the castle. The whole family joined the tour in the castle and walked really peacefuly obeying all the rules which we know from our previous numerous visits to numerous touristic attractions. Suddenly we were asked to leave the tour by the local gùide.
This experience was very unpleasent. We asked to get refunded and was refused also.
I must say that this is first time in my life the local guide treated my family with so lack of respect and such a low level of proficiency. I hope that such a mistreatment is not a casual case in this tourist attraction and defenetly will not advise to friends of mine to visit such a place.
We emailed to administration of the castle, but nobody answer us till now...

With respect

A very beautiful castle in a tiny town of Bohemia
Aug 2016 • Family
Rozmberk Castle is one of the oldest castles in Bohemia and it is located in a tiny town called Rozmberk. The castle is located in the upper part of the town and you can see it from all parts of the town. It is possible to do three different guided visits and I try to do the typical one. The visit was interesting and the views from the castle are very beautiful.

Beautiful setting
May 2017 • Friends
The inside of the castle has little original furniture and much of the restoration work is sub-par. The guide only spoke Czech which was funny because no one in the tour could understand her although that didn't deter her . The settings around the castle is gorgeous and there is a nice cafe at the castle with lovely views.

Worth a trip

The castle isn't the best, although the tapestries are impressive. However, if your kids are into it, it is worth going to the torture museum in the dungeon!
