Superb. Owner went out of his way to help us.
Aug 2021
4 of us arrived off a canal boat (moored a few hundred yards away) late on a Tuesday hoping for a drink and maybe some crisps and nuts.
Instead we got beer, pizzas and pies in an absolutely fantastic 'old world' set-up. Friendly staff, friendly locals and a unique host who is justifiably proud of his pub. Thousands (literally) of memorabilia and knick-knacks all over the plave. There's a lovely big garden with loads of seating and flowers everywhere.
If you ever want to see (or show visitors) what an old thatched pub should look like then this is the one. I can't think of a single way to improve it!

Worth waiting for
Jun 2021 • Friends
With the lifting of restrictions a visit to The Fishermans was high on our list of places to visit and, as always, it delivered.

Outside tables well spaced around the garden, table service was great and the pint was just fantastic. Everything you could ask for ... oh yeag, the weather was nice too - but dont think that would have put many off from visiting.

Hi, you must be mistaken us with another pub in Co Laois. We do not serve fish and chips. Regards, The Fisherman's.

GREAT pub
Jul 2019
We had hired a canal boat from barrow lines & were cruising the canal, we had been told we had to stop at this pub, best advice ever - loved it, stayed for a few pints, was entertained by the most charming publican I've ever met. The man is a true genius with fabulous interior decorating sense. Its a brilliant pub, don't miss it

Barrow way walk
Sep 2019 • Friends
I spent my sunday afternoon walking the Barrow way from rathangan co kildare to fisherstown co laoise on a walk organised by laoise / kildare / Carlow sports partnership. The walk was 18 km of stunning countryside that is currently being transformed into a " blue way " .It has absolutely driven a commitment in me to explore the complete route and see for myself what I have been missing right on my doorstep .Congratulations to the organisers it was run so professionally that everyone returned with huge smiles. The day i thought could not get any better ........sundays walk ended at the fisherman's thatched inn , with the creamiest pint of Guinness and an open fire warming my tired feet while 2 musicians belted out traditional Irish music. The proprietor sean keeping everyone happy with tea, coffee and sambos. WHAT A DAY 😎

Boating on the Grand Canal
Aug 2019
As recommended by fellow boaters not to miss a pub between Monasterevin and Vicarstown on the Barrowline of the Grand Canal at a stop at Fisherstown Bridge
Called the Fishersmans.
So we had the pleasure of visiting these premises last weekend with a very short walk from the bridge to the pub.
We were very pleasantly greeted by the owner Sean Ward and his staff Emma and Shane that could not do enough to make our stay a welcoming one.
They even went to the trouble to keep our pet dog watered while we checked out the
beautiful outside gardens that are used for functions and weddings.
When we went inside the premises was full of fishermans ornaments, nets, lamps, anchors etc don’t ask me how they keep all of this dust free as the whole pub was spotlessly clean.
There is also another separate function room in the pub that is used also for functions
and parties which can be also closed off from the main pub if desired boasts Sean.
We also like to play a game of pool and again Sean has a separate pool room were you can move around the table with great ease and relax to enjoy the game properly
.A very welcoming relaxing experience was had by all , a great pub and staff, premises inside and in the gardens spotless, would highly recommend this experience to our fellow boaters and friends.
Thanks Again to Sean and Staff
We will be back

Fantastic Local which welcomes all
Jul 2019
This pub is my brothers local. I hadn't been there in about three years and it had been several months since my brother was in. After hard days manual labour (I usually lift a pen and phone) I was really looking forward to a drink. This is a lovely pub both outside with it's white washed walls and thatched roof and inside with the open peat fire the endless nick knacks. After a lifetime in retail business Sean Ward bought the place for the retirement element of his long career. He is a pub landlord with everything the customer needs, plenty of stories, free sausages and other nibbles for his drinkers and a pot of tea for the designated driver. He is not only keeping a national treasure going he is creating memories for people. The staff are mainly young locals who are not only earning money to get them through college they are being taught the essential skills of good customer service from a genius.
So free cocktail sausages some excellent pints in a welcoming Irish Pub a few ghost stories from the landlord and courteous commentary with a smile from young efficient staff and the Local Link taxi service to drop you the six or so miles home for €3.00. Where would you get it.Do your self a favour call in to see Sean and be served a pint from the beautiful Andrea because the simple things done beautifully is one of the rare pleasures in life.

The Welcome is always Warm.
May 2019 • Friends
When I return home I always visit the Fisherman's, enjoy a drink but, most of all, renew friendship with Sean again. The conversation is always stimulating and the welcome always warm. Traditionally Irish with the thatched roof and the myriad 'knick knacks" throughout the interior, its a grand place to enjoy the ambience of an Irish pub and its traditions. Luckily I had the services of a driver on my last night.
