I thought I had become jaded when it comes to seeing crumbling colonial forts in lush, tropical environs, but I loved this place. Few people, free entry (donation appreciated), incredible views, and with a real end of the Earth feel that I dug.
The history of the occupation of the Banda islands is horrible, but this fort from 1611 is a beautiful relic. The views are spectacular, especially for sunset. 20k entrance fee. Climb up the turrets for really great views.
Unlike the old buildings, Fort Belgica is well maintained, clean and easy to access.
