You Don't Have to Be a Cyclist to Love This--Americans Don't Miss This!
Nov 2016 • Friends
You do need to speak Italian or have someone in your group who does. We did, so we loved every minute of something I probably would have passed up if our local friend hadn't taken us here. The museum was closed when we arrived, but, Egidio, the curator/proprietor lives at the end of the street and happily came to open it for us. If you're facing the museum, turn to the right and walk to the end of the street and his house is right in front of you. He'll see you wandering around and will come out. Meeting this lovely octogenarian was a highlight of our trip to the region. He walked us through the exhibits and around the area, telling his personal history of Fausto Coppi and his era in Castellania. He's passionate about preserving this story. He even has Fausto's mother's kitchen implements--which sounds silly, but was really interesting to have him describe what they were used for--great insight into village life. Don't expect a fancy museum, it's pretty simple--it's his narration that makes it fascinating. At the end of our visit he told us that he had great affection for the American people and thanked us for our nation's generosity in helping to rebuild Italy after the war through the Marshall Plan. We cried. It was so moving. What a great experience--and not one you get going to large museums and attractions.

Hi, thanks for your visit ! Just some precisation.. its not "necessary" to speak italian for foreign tourist.. you probably visit it during the week or in a particular saturday/sunday in which i wasn't at home! :) 2nd.. Mr Egidio was the owner of the "centro documentazione" and not of Coppi's House.. i don't know how it was in the House, cause its Mrs Anna that organize the guide. Thanks! Manuela

I visited this place recently on a Sunday afternoon, I decided to casually to drive towards the birthplace of Fausto Coppi in a remote village in the Tortona's hills. Once in town we visited the church located right beside the brothers Coppi's tomb.
Once finished the tour and the visit to the church and graves, we went to the museum stands in the courtyard of his birthplace. This place stayed with me, many relics of the famous Fausto, including bicycles, original jerseys, pictures and more historical material. The small museum is run by an elderly man who told us the story being a distant relative. Totally free of charge, I've tried to give a small donation, even if the old guy told me do not give any money, he loves what he is doing and he does for free. Explanation are in Italian only, so no English spoken or other foreigns languages.
Anyway it has been a couple of hour very well spent. I wish everyone have to come and enjoy this historical place.
