Great for kids

Though only open for a few hours at weekends (check by month), this is well worth altering schedules for - if you've got kids, particularly. It's all in Italian, but the stories of fossils, dinosaurs etc are pretty universal.

A gem of a museum

This is a lovely little museum. There are some fantastic fossils here and the amber is so beautiful. This is not a big museum and would not bore younger members of the family because it is really fascinating. We were also shown upstairs where there is a model of the boat sculpture/fountain that can be seen on the Lungomare at Pescara. It is ideal for an afternoon trip which can be combined with ice cream at the fantastic gelateria in St. Valentino in Abruzzo Citeriore (love that name).

I loved this museum

You would hardly know it was there as no one advertises it. Only if you stop in the village will you notice that it is there.
We went to visit the first time and found that it was only open in the afternoons , so beware take note of the times on the door( sorry I can not remember which days it is open.
It is a museum of amber , I never knew that amber came in so many different colours.
The more interesting part of the museum for me and my partner were the fossils. There was an amazing fossilized crab to be in what looked like attack mode. I am sure that I will go back for another visit especially as this little village on the hill has a nice icecream bar and a pub with a very nice garden in the summer. you will be able to recognise this village from a distance as the church looks like it has kitty ears!!

A delightful museum well worth an hour.

The amber is a private collection donated to the museum. An hour will see you round the exhibits. Then you can visit next door the gelateria which is famed throughout Abruzzo because the owner has won "Best ice-cream maker in Italy".
