So beautiful situated in a valley surrounded by high cliffs. Several churches and chapels all dating back to the 13th and 14th century. A church (reachable by a very narrow steep stair) atop a burial vault: unique building and very nicely sculptered. Several khachkars (cross-stones).

Very interesting reading and hearing about this monastery, the details on the walls, the small steps to the top, etc. One of the best monasteries in Armenia, as well as Tatev.

Hidden in deep mountain range. Very well preserved. And it is only just over an hour drive from Yerevan. The view along the way to this monastery is stunning. The monastery itself is also pretty. But like most monastery in Armenia, it is not that...More

Beautiful Monastery set in a lovely valley. Wonderful carvings on the walls and inside. Very old and an excellent example. Try to follow a guided tour to get the most of the experience as this monastery was built by a master.

Beautiful place which is surely worth visiting. The church is well restored and impresses by its ancient archtecture. Several tiny chapels makes you to think about history of early christians. It hard to imagine what these old stones saw and can tell, but you understand...More

This definitely is one monastery not to miss. It is quite a distance from Yerevan but combined with the Areni cave complex is a highlight of things to do in Armenia. Combine with a visit to Nagorno Karabagh if going there and stay at the...More

We have been inside the valley up to the Monastery in April, during the apricot blossom season. Entering within a canyon surrounded by red stones and white flowers trees has been fantastic. Moreover once arrived up to the Monastery, both the Monastery and the view...More

My legs are not really strong. I don't like climbing staircase. I feel my knees a little bit painful after climbing up /down staircase continuously for 10 minutes. Is it suitable for me to go to Noravank Monastery? A visitor before said that there are snakes and lots of loose rocks. Is it safe for me to go there ? Thanks for your advice.

Most of the road will be covered by a car. You need to walk about 2 mins to reach the church. The road is very lovely and it's a must see place. Go for it!!
