About
The wagon of the Avinurme museum train on display will give you an idea of how people were deported to Siberia. In the middle of the wagon you will see a rusty stove, while at both ends there are bunk beds on which mannequins sit and lie, squashed in like sardines in a tin. They are dressed in the clothes they had at the time and have with them authentic items, such as aluminium soup pots with the handles of the ladles peeking out over the edge, baskets stuffed with whatever rags they could bring with them, a Singer sewing machine and more.

Very nice experience!

We visited Avinurme with two families and we really enjoyed the train trip. The excursion lasted about 1 hour and included a 1 km return trip and an overview of the history by the train driver. The children enjoyed riding the train and for the adults it was interesting to learn about the history of the railroad as well as the story of its restoration. We could sit both inside the passenger carriage as well as on the open platform. It was touching to see that the railroad was important for the locals and the entire community was involved in the restoration works. I can see there's also potential for developing the service further!
