Sweetwater beach has to be one of the best places to pass a half-day on the southern coast of Crete. The crystal clear sea and the pristine beach (no unsightly buildings in view) make for a day, or even a few hours of relaxing in Paradise. The boat trip is the prelude of the delights that lie in store for... More

My wife and I were at this wonderful beach a couple of times in August / September this year. We stayed at a hotel near Chora Sfakion, and took the boat clock 10:15 from Chora Sfakion to the beach. Tickets, which cost 4 euro per person per trip, was purchased at the dock. We arrived at the beach and found... More

Excellent beach. The well giving sweet water just 2mt from the sea is just incredible. You can reach this beach by boat or better on foot. There are ways to reach it on foot: from Loutro (1/1.5hr easy trekking) or from the hairpin near ilingas (20/30 minutes trekking, not too easy at points).

This is the best sea I've ever been. Cold, clear blue water, full of fish and wonderful beach!!!! Nudists and tents at the one side, umbrella sets at the other. There is a taverna in the sea for coffee/snack/meal. There are boat tours from Chora Sfakion to Glyka Nera (4 hours) and Loutro (2 hours) not very costly.

Nice hike from Loutro! Easy and flat. Wear low top trail running shoes. Nice beach. Nude-semi nude part is quieter. Great taverna!

Is it that you must trek over the cliffs for about 1 h from Loutro or from Chora Sfakion - or take a boat-taxi from the latter to reach it? Yes, too. It makes a big difference - this beach is never crowded, for one... It is beautiful, too. It is mixed with sand and pebbles, and beach shoes are... More

You can reach it from Hora Sfakion port. There's a bot leaving at 10,15 (and returning at 17,30 from there). Water is perfect but there are ONLY pebbels, you absolutely need shoes (also to get into the sea). There's the chance to rent umbrella and seabeds and eat someting in a tavern there

Very beautiful beach with crystal, turquoise waters. The temperature of the water is a bit cold because sweet water comes out of the earth, which makes it the ideal destination for the hottest days of the summer.

Exactly the sort of beach we look for in Greece. Away from the crowds, secluded and free from loud music you so often hear blasting out of tavernas on other beaches. The beach is pebbles and shingle so there is no sand to blow in your face when the Meltemi whips up like it often does in Crete in July... More

Reached by 12 min ride (€8 adult return) water taxi from Loutro leaving 11am back at 5pm this beautiful beach gets its name from the icy water springs that bubble up on the beach. The fresh water means that trees survive on the beach and provide a nice shaded areas at the rear although beds and umbrellas are available for... More
