perfect for a rainy day
Sep 2020
We arrived just in the nick of time to fetch the 11:30h tour. We enjoyed the friendly and knowledgeable tour guide lady. The information was helpful and interesting.
The car drive to the cave leads through the forest und through many a curve. But it was worth the trip. During the Covid-19 time I recommend highly to call in to find out when the tours are.

Very nice 1 hour trip

Because of covid only the 1 hour tour was available. Very nice cave with audio tour. Next time we will try the 2 hour tour down in the cave.

Worse management in the world
Jan 2020
We came for the 3 hour tour which it is advertised as being on today. We arrive 40min before hand, the guy tells us that only the 1h hour tour available and then locks us out the building to wait in the cold for 20min. I’m sure the caves are nice, if only the employees here would want to work and do what they are paid for. Awful.

Amazing caves
Nov 2019
We took the one hour tour of these amazing caves at a latest hour so we were just the two of us and another family of three. Our guide was very knowledgeable and helpful answering our questions. The stalagmites and the stalactites were just stunning. I agree with the other reviewers in regard to the very narrow road to the caves. I ended up driving a few more roads similar to this on our way to several hill towns - this one was one of the most beautiful winding one.

Amazing caves excellent guide
Sep 2019 • Couples
We arrived just after 10.00 (when it opens) and started a one hour visit in English straight away. The guide was excellent, very knowledgeable and helpful answering any questions. The stalactites, stalagmites and other calcified formations were really stunning. It’s very well presented and the concrete path with handrails is easy to do. The 2 and 3 hour tours are more adventurous but to be honest we thought one hour was just right. Nice little coffee and souvenir shop, also toilets. Note: the road to this place is narrow and winding and although spectacular is not for the nervous driver!

Great spot for adults and kids. We have been with 3 & 5 years old. We all enjoyed 1h trip. There is also 2h trip available. A bit long bendy road to the place, however enjoyable.

Grotto Del Vento was a great experience
Aug 2019 • Couples
We did the 2 hour tour which is a little strenuous activity for people with walking issues but the caves themselves we
re very beautiful. We didn't have an English speaking guide but used headsets which you used at various way points throughout the system. Take a jacket as the temp inside is always 10C.
The drive up is also an experience if driving a big car like a rang rover as the road is very skinny. We had a good time overall.

Show Cave That is a Great Place to Cool-Off during the Heat Wave
Jul 2019 • Couples
Wonderful show cave in the mountains near Barga. Underground river with lovely flow stone, curtains, stalactites, stalagmites, and straws. We took the English language two-hour tour. The guide was extremely knowledgeable and pleasant. It is about 50 degrees F. in the caves so bring long sleeves. During our visit, it was 98 degrees outside, so we appreciated the cool down. The trip to the cave is on a winding mountain road, that is pretty challenging for non-Tuscan drivers. However, the mountains are very pretty and the terrain is quite inviting.

Worth a visit
Jul 2019 • Family
Visited this cave on a hot July day. As mentioned on a lot of these reviews, the roads are windy, narrow and steep in some places, however not as challenging as other mountainous roads - and the views are spectacular! We opted for the 1hr tour as we’d just missed out on the time for the 2hr. Our tour guide spoke fluent English, however there are also audio cassettes available in most other languages. The cave itself is cold (10.7 degrees C) and unbelievably humid (98-100!) so be prepared for a few drops of water to land on you and perhaps take a jacket. The cave itself was very interesting, not as breathe taking as others such as the Aven Armand in the Cévennes region of France, however the calcium carbonate ‘melting rocks’ structures alongside the other features and the history of the cave are informative. The 1hr tour is c. 360 steps, with some uphill, and we were told the 2hr one is c. 820 with a 70m downhill walk to an underground river. Be wary if wanting to go with small children as there are times when there are no hand rails/it’s slippery, and also with people with walking impairments.
