About
The Seinajoki main library consists of two buildings (Apila and Aalto) and both are architecturally noteworthy. Aalto library was completed in 1965 and was designed by Alvar Aalto. The newer building Apila was opened in August of 2012. Apila is open every day of the year. Aalto library is closed on religious holidays and Sundays and also Saturdays during the summer.

Something for everyone
Oct 2020
A place to read newspapers and have a cup of coffee or lunch, or just sit and read in front of the large windows in a rocking chair and watch the town move by. Great reading nooks for adults, teens, and kids.

Stunning library
Aug 2019
This library was designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar Aalto as a part of the Aalto Centre in Seinäjoki. The building was completed in 1965.

Aalto’s library functioned as the main library of the city until 2012. In 2012 the new main library Apila was completed and Aalto’s library was connected to it with an underground passage.

The fan shape of the library’s main room is the most striking feature of the building. Light falls through the slatted windows and casts beautiful shapes on the ceiling, walls, and shelves.

Didn't expect to spend here so much time

Really a great place to visit. Definitely worth seeing it. Friendly service. Cozy atmosphere. Books even in other languages. You can get a coffee here if you want. I went there to see how is it(not a big fan of libraries) and ended up spending here 3 hours. Would recommend to see.

A real library!
Jul 2016 • Business
OK, I like libraries, ever since I got to visit them, but this is like the dream of a modern library (the other dream is the shady, old library that smells like old books). This is really designed to be a library and it looks good!

Library can be fine design and still cozy.

Situated in the well known Alvar Aalto Center of Seinäjoki, the new libary is beautiful piece of modern architecture with still very cozy atmosphere. Especially children and young people have been taken carefully account in the design. There is a tunnel connecting the new to the old library drawn by Alvar Aalto. Absolutely a place worth of visit

Wow! Such a beautiful library with much open space. I was especially impressed with the children's area as there were many interactive and fun features, such as carpeted play cubes.

FEEL A NEW LEVEL AMONG LIBRARIES
Apr 2016 • Solo
I just love our new library! It has a very creativity atmosphere, pleasant places to sit, amazing amount of magazines and books. The cafe is good and prices are very low and you can just sit at the table, drink your coffee or eat lunch and read your favorite magazines. You can also be on your own computer, listening music or even play the piano! Or just hang around with your friends. To children it has so wonderful department that I just hoped my kids would be little again... this library has a wonderful little lots to be and play as a kid. One plus thing is that you cant be on the mobile phone because of the cover of the library. I do think, this the place for a little break of our rushing life!
