Quaint yet modern museum

This small museum does not overwhelm, but gives an interesting look at Belle Époque life and style, with particular emphasis on Blankenberge.

The surrounding area is full of delightful properties, and I’d have happily paid several euros for a decent booklet giving a guided tour.

We had asked at the tourist board about a booklet with a walk in, and were kindly given a walking tour of war sites: the lady meant well. We managed to put together our own walk from the 750 leaflet, but it’s a huge sheet with info on both sides and was difficult in the wind! Only as we were leaving did we see a small brass plate on the pavement that might have been a BE route!

Some museums don't hold my interest but this one certainly did

Have to say I didn't know much about it when we stumbled across it when visiting Blankenberge and so please we did. From the minute you walk through the door you are in what I can only describe as 'the golden age' you feel as if you are right back there, the way life was pre ww1 A great and enjoyable inside into the way of life back then. The furnishings are delightful and I loved the posters.I took a heap of photos of this place the furnishings of the era, fashions, the building from outside, but where they have vanished to I have no idea so only have left a few of the great posters.

Very interactive

You can park your car on the street for free during weekdays and outside the holiday periods (eastern, July and August). The tour of the museum and the building starts at the roof (3rd level). You will have a view of the church and some Art Nouveau doors.
The 2nd and 1st floor will tell you the history of Blankenberge during the Bell Epoque area (1870 to 1914). There are several interactive displays, all in Dutch, English, French and German. It is not a big museum but still interesting if you want to learn the local history.

Nice suprise - a must in Blankenberge

I discovered this nice museum while walking by and just popped in. Fantastic hands-on experience if you love architecture, want to see the difference between the town today and in the beginning of the XX century, and like interactive museums. I was alone, but it's equally recommended for families. The visit doesn't last more than 1-1.5 hours and it's a discovery of the past splendor of this beach resort.

Really enjoyed this splendid house and it's interpretation. Very well done, with photos and memorabilia of the heyday of Blankenburge pre the First World War.

What a treat!

We had an hour to kill while on a bicycle tour break. We didn't want to eat, drink beer or hang at the beach. Our guide recommended this museum and I am so glad he did. At first we didn't think we'd go but admission was not much so in we went. What a lovely little museum with some very innovative displays, collections and exhibits to show what life was like around the 1900's in this beach town. I learned how the rich and working classes played, worked and lived. You start the tour on the roof top terrace which is such a great surprise. Then you head down floor by floor. Whoever created this museum had lots of creativity, knowledge and love for the project.

A fascinating insight into an era I had no knowledge of

This fascinating museum, arranged over 3 floors (there is a lift!), was an eye opener. The front desk hands out a guide in English (plus a number of other languages) which explains all the exhibits clearly.

Expected more

Nice museum, but nothing special. Some of the old pictures were interesting. If you have some time and it rains, do it. Three floors but very little on the actual belle epoque. Expected more. Bit disappointed.
