About
The Castle of San Terenzo stands in a commanding position over the fishing village of San Terenzo, in the Gulf of Poets in the province of La Spezia. The castle rises on a low rocky spur overlooking the sea, in a picturesque landscape setting, and in addition to telling its history to visitors, it hosts events, exhibitions, and other cultural activities. The origins of the fortification are likely lost in the central centuries of the Middle Ages, when Saracen pirate raids were far from rare on all the coasts of the Peninsula. This period is probably echoed in both the tradition of an attempted raid by the 'Turks' on the village of San Terenzo, which was fiercely repelled by the inhabitants, and the name given to a cave on the underlying promontory: the 'Turks' Den.' The earliest evidence in written documents, however, is much later: in 1360 we know that a certain Rossi was the castellan of the village.

Well worth the 20 min walk along the coast from Lerici, this quaint castle is only 2 euros to look around but as above be aware that it closes at 1.00pm and doesn’t reopen till late afternoon.

Interesting attraction, it's a pity that is not properly valorized. From the top terrace the panorama on the gulf is astonishing.

San Terenzo castle is just above the town and accessible by a stairway. The view from the top is worthwhile but there is nothing within the castle apart from empty stone walls where they may have art exhibitions etc. However San Terenzo is stunning and a lovely town. It has a promenade that stretches about 2k down to Lerici, so some lovely flat walking. Plenty of restaurants and coffee bars to relax and stare at the amazing views across the sea. Cinque Terre is across the water and can be reached by boat or train.

The castle is a dramatic medieval building sitting over the small village and opposite another castle in the town of Lerici. If you are in the area this is the prettiest part of the Golfo Dei Poeti and the castle overlooks the Villa Shelley.

San Terenzo offers the right mix of beautiful turquoise sea, a wide stretch of beach , lush green hills and the magic of the unmistakable multi-colored Ligurian tower-houses. Its beauty and charm is also well celebrated by the many local tourists. San Terenzo is a village in the in the province of La Spezia - Italy.

We have been around Italy and the San Terenzo castello is small, but well preserved. It is not generally open to the public except in June and July. We were fortunate enough to see an art exhibit there in October . Which gave us full access to the castello. There is a small entrance fee. Worthwhile if your visiting this small town

There was an art exhibition in this small castle when we visited.
Wonderful views across the bay to Lerici and Portovenere.

Pretty small castle. Nothing much special. Offers nice views of the the coastline. At the time, there was a Frankenstein exposition. That one was worthless. A couple of posters, some texts about Shelley and all in Italian

Great visit to the castle. Fantastic views of San Terenzo, Lerici and the sea. Well with a visit. Only €2 per adult. It opens in the evening.
