Always delivers.

Schladming planai ski resort is an excellent ski resort with new ski lifts, well groomed slopes, fantastic food to reasonable prices and very friendly atmosphere. Lot of different slopes, long blue but also never ending red ones. No 10 - no man's land is a favorite. Will come back as soon as it is possible for a 3rd time.

Very nice, also in summer
Jun 2020 • Couples
We came here in summer to enjoy mountains and nature. With the Dachstein Sommercard we had the usage of one cable car of our choice included.
That worked quite well, also in covid 19 times.
The area itself is great and very beautiful. You'll find a wide range of hiking trails of different difficulties to various places like mountain summits, lakes or alpine cabins.
So even outside of winter, this is a nice area to spend your vacation.

Nice ski area
Mar 2020 • Family
My favourite for a weekend trip with family and friends.
The slopes are always in perfect condition, even if the weather isn’t very good.

Nice slopes but too small for the quantity of guests
Feb 2020 • Friends
Nice skiing area, good organization of public transport to the slopes. Good parking opportunities. Enough apres ski possibilities. Good Hotels.
Slopes well prepared.
Many opportunities to eat and drink, big, new, often not very cosy.
Skiing area at low altitude with a certain risk of bad snow conditions (I had even rain up to the highest point of 1800m). Too small in lifts and slopes for the many many guests. Waited once 45min in front of weak lifts that connect the skiing areas Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm. In general waiting times above average. Slopes more crowdy than average. Recommend area at points in time with no holidays around central Europe and colder temperatures.

Fine slopes
Feb 2020 • Couples
The overall impression of the ski area is good. There is new cable car planai, but piste preparation is average. It is true that there was not eny snow fall for a long time but they should do more.

Signs for directions on slopesis for those not familiar with the area are not visible enough. Signs at are too late.
Linkages from Planai West to Rohrmoos and Pichl to Reiteralm are old chair lifts. Little slow.
Slopes have good variety and some are quite difficult. Rohrmoos and Pichl have easier slopes. Restaurants maintain a good standard and also prices.

Generally good. Better for intermediate/advanced

A holiday to schladming can be a mixed bag. The location of your accommodation can play a big difference to your time in schladming. The slopes on the Hochwurzen are limited, better slopes are the Planai and Hauser Kaibling Areas. My 4 year old daughter was well looked after big the Tritscher ski school on the Rohrmoos nursery slopes.
The issue with schladming as a whole is that fairly new skiers / 2 week is there is a lack of easily accessible blue runs on the resort of schladming as a whole.
So generally easily get caught out having to do red runs which maybe steeper than you wanted.
Cappuccino / latte prices around 3.8 euros.
Small beer 3/4 euros.
Soups 4/5 euros
Main meals 7/12 euros

Night skiing / tobogganing on the Hochwurzen is a must.
Under 6’s went free. Adult was about 17 euros for one run of the 7km run .
Hire of a decent toboggan 7 euros
Opens at 7pm. Be warned parking around the Gipfelbahn Hochwurzen bubble is full up early. Advise getting there early 6/6.30. Or a taxi. Particularly new year week.

Supermarkets are great in schladming. A large spar, Aldi just out of town, Lidl, a billa. Be away on Sunday’s they don’t open, so think what day your arriving.

Ski pass price picture attached. Day rate is high but we got an adult 12 days I4 pass which works out around 31 euros a day.

Skiing over Christmas
Dec 2019
Planai has a new lift, 10 persons cabin, which makes a big improvement to the queuing problem. It becomes operational in early December, there are signs that the system is still in fine-tuning stage. It is evident that the lift is running much slower than expected during a slightly windier day. Doors were not properly closed and it needs to be manually "helped" on one occasion. Hopefully, smooth running is not far off.

The overall impression of the ski area is good. The huge effort to remove the bottleneck at Planai is paying off. However, piste preparation is only average. It is slightly disappointed that lumps on heavily trafficked piste are not smoothed out more despite some snowfall during the previous days and nights.

Signage is still a problem (in places) for those not familiar with the area. Signs at or just beyond the turn off are too late for skiers/snowboarders relying on gravity. Turning back and going uphill (even a small one) requires a lot of effort.

Linkages from Planai West to Rohrmoos and Pichl to Reiteralm are slow. It is better off to use the ski bus to access these areas.

Asides the negatives, skiing is good in general. Slopes have good variety and some are challenging. Restaurants maintain a good standard.

I love it here
Jul 2019
Today we took Planai West to visit the Planai.
On the Planai a new lift is being built. Therefor you take the Gondela Planai West to the Kessler Alm. From this point the bus will take you to the top of the Planai.
Everything went smoothly. We did not wait long for the bus.
There is a nice playground for kids, good restaurants, lovely walks & trails for walking and cycling.
The views are great!
On the top of the mountains I missed the toilets (but this is because of building the new topstation).

Awesome go karting
Jul 2019 • Family
I really enjoy the ride down the Hochwurzen mountain with a GoKart! It is not cheap, but the experience is just awesome!
I recommend taking sun glasses otherwise you get too much dust in your eyes.

First rate facilities on both mountains. Ultra modern lift systems for the ski season. Planai’s main Cable Car is being replaced summer 2019 for an all new 10 seater cabin system. Superb ski pistes in winter giving way to well maintained trails in the summer along with some additional attractions such as The Mountain Go Karts on Hochwurzen and Planai MTB Park. The Schladming Dachstein Summer Card gives free use of the lift systems during The Summer Card Season.
