Wonderful skiing spanning 4 mountains
Dec 2019
This place is wonderful. We are both beginners and went up Rohrmoos for two half day to 3/4 day sessions then Hauser Kaibling for one full day on the blue slopes.

On Hauser Kaibling the runs were really wide and long. With many places to eat and rest. One note of caution is some of their trails are not that well marked, so we missed the trail 3b on the left and had to ski it again just to go down another ski lift.

Views are gorgeous! Be sure to arrive early to be almost alone on the sky walk and for better lightning for pictures. We were most impressed by stairs to nothingness and ice palace. Hanging bridge offers you amazing views. Walking on the glacier is something special.

Check web-cams before you go up there. It might be sunny in the valley but foggy on the top or the other way around. If there is fog on the top there is nothing to do and you won’t get such nice views and panorama.

And bring warm and high hiking shoes and warm clothes.

One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. There is a lot to do once you get to the top. Could have stayed all day!

Great skiing break

I have skied in many places across Europe and need to say I really enjoyed Schladming. I suppose even the Hauser Kaibling, Hochwurzen and Reiterlm a bit more than Planai that tend to be overcrowded a bit.
Anyway great variety of tracks, great views, lots of reds and some challenging blacks.. Overall a great resort to come back

Nice views, but terribly expensive and to be honest, not really worth it. The ice cave was also really poor. Overall, very poor value for money.

If you like snow , and the snow culture , it's a must go ! On winter numerous options for skiing and snowboard , and a place where you can also make it almost to the begging of the summer ...

VERY popular trip from Schladming.

The early bus out (50 mins) had more standing than sitting and although coming back there were three at about 1 all of them were the same. There's also a big parking area at the top of the toll road. The bus is free with the local Summercard as is the lift to the attractions at the Col. It is advisable to get your hotel to book you a place on the lift if you're arriving at a bus time as otherwise you might be waiting a long time for a space - they seem to run about every 15 mins. There is a lot of good walking at the parking/terminus area.
What about the attractions at the top? Well I wasn't too impressed having already visited the far superior (and far more expensive) Jungfraujoch. Some moderate skiing, a possible half hour walk across snow to the mountain hut if you've got suitable footwear. The ice palace and bridge, restaurants and thats about it. I was warned by my hotel that I wouldn't need as long as I thought and they were right. I had a free voucher for the ice palace so it was a cheap day out but if you had to pay I'd think twice. There's a wonderful view of the Dachstein which cant be seen from the valley.

As long as you are not relying on bus services, this region offers a lot

The ski bus service is not very regular but there is a very large skiable area so good place to go exploring. Make the trip to the Dachstein Glacier if you have an opportunity - limited skiing but the hanging bridge and Ice Palace are spectacular.
