Visited this museum today.
Small museum but very well presented and with a great care and proudness by the people of the small village Fiavè.
It is amazing to see how the people 4000 years ago could live on “palafitte “ and all the tools used for the daily life.
The Location and museum deserves a visit.

Very modern museum!

Museum is located in a renovated old house which was presumably a monastery long ago. Museum is very modern, with a lot of screens and presentations. The remains of piles are situated in a small lake around 2 km away. Worth visiting!

Something for all ages of visitors

There are so many levels in visiting a zone and digging (no pun intended!) into the past can open your eyes to "what was" two thousand or more years ago. We ran across this archeological site decades ago when there was no museum and even then found it interesting and definitely worthwhile studying. Now this possibility of further study is presented by the excellent museum and offers to capture the eyes of the younger generation.

Extremely Unique Experience

This a a beautiful and unique museum in Fiave'. The building itself and the exhibits are tremendous and give a true sense of how amazing the lake dwellings were 6000 years ago. It is truly unique as there is so little known about people from those times...Roman ruins are from practically yesterday compared to this settlement. Then to top it off you can walk down a very nice path in a beautiful setting to the actual lake and see the remaining poles that are thousands of years old. It is hard to believe. This museum blew away my expectations. After visiting the lake you can also go across the street to La Pineta and get a great pizza and go over everything you just learned....

The Palafitte Museum brings to life how people lived more than 5000 years ago
Jul 2016 • Friends
A visit to The Palafitte Museum, brought home to me how intelligent our ancestors who lived more than 5000 years ago were! A truly fascinating museum, which gives you an insight into the lives of those living in those ancient times. In an area nearby, which now is Unesco Heritage Site, you can still see the piles on which, houses were constructed and where a farming community lived, on the banks of Lake Carera, which existed at that time around 3800-3600 B.C. Walking through a very modern Museum with multimedia to help reconstruct the everyday life of this very intelligent community, you will find yourself surprised at their considerable skill, artistry and expertise. Besides a model of a pile dwelling erected over the water, there are videos and artifacts on display found in the water, which show objects which resemble modern things we still use today. The life of a farming community is shown in videos and reproductions as you go through different rooms showing different facets of their daily life. I was really fascinated because the museum took me back in time and made me see life as it really was in those far away days. If you love history don’t miss it!

This is a gem of a museum and it is very interesting to learn about the old civilizations that built their whole town on stilts. I would recommend this museum.

Very close to the Ponte Arche , more or less 7 Km , this place give you a great idea about the life of many many years ago. Why there ? How was possible just there ? Interesting questions that museum documents will give an easy answer .

Archeological gem

This museum is in a small village about 30 km from Trento, Italy. It explores the history of dwellings built on and by a lake that existed nearby, thousands of years ago. It houses hundreds of objects discovered during excavation of what remains of the lake (now a UNESCO World Heritage site), including fruit, seeds, tools, pottery and jewellery. Objects that needed restoration have been sensitively restored, and are displayed creatively in light and airy cabinets with easy to understand explanations in both italian and english. The curator and her husband are wonderful ambassadors for the museum, clearly taking great pride in what has been developed and happy to share their knowledge. The drive from Trento to Fiave is wonderful too - towering mountains, shimmering lakes, green fields. Just beautiful. The only aspect that might be a negative - there is no parking on site and it was not clear where we could leave our car (we ended up leaving it near the local church, which turned out to be the right thing to do).
