Ngadak monastery was not on the regular sightseeing itinerary but I am so so glad I visited it. The place has such a claming effect on you and since it's not touristy, it's not crowded and very peaceful. It's an 18th century monastery and the original structure is still intact but there is a bigger monastery which has been built next to it. It is extremely beautiful and colourful. When I visited it was prayer time and I just automatically got pulled into a meditative state. After the ceremony I was offered butter tea and interacted with some of the monks. I thoroughly loved Ngadak and I think if you are into meditation and like to see authentic places then this is a must visit!!!

The monastery is very huge and situated on a hill top. The hill summit gives you beautiful view of the surrounding hills and even the monastery is very attractive. The place is a must visit.

The The meaning of the word Ngadak is ‘promise’. Constructed under the reign of the Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal, the prayer flags welcome the tourists while they enter inside the complex. The monastery was partially damaged during an earthquake but is being reconstructed. The monastery is known to be a great example of the old city of Sikkim.

Ngadak Monastery is one of the oldest monasteries of Namchi which was built by Tensung Namgyal, during the reign of Chogyal Gyurmed Namgyal regime. Belonging to as early as the 17th century, the word Ngadak actually means promise. Hence it is believed that anyone coming here would make a promise to come back again. This monastery was constructed as a palace to Her Highness Pendi Ongmu. It was damaged by an earthquake and is a testimony to old religious culture of Sikkim. A large new Gumpa is under construction at Ngadak as the old structure is ruined however it still exudes a sense of old Sikkim.
