Lovely and historic
Jun 2021
This is a beautiful spot with many lovely views of the sea and the coast. It is made even more interesting by the existence of the ruins, as Cabo Espichel used to be a site of pilgrimage. There was also a fort there at one point. We really enjoyed walking through the ruins and the sea views.

A very beautiful place
Jul 2020
Cabo Espichel is a cape situated on the western coast of Portugal. Stunning, no other words. Amazing views, monastery, lighthouse, walk to the abandoned house. Cabo Espichel Lighthouse is one of the oldest in the country. It was built in 1790. You have to be careful because cliffs are really very high. An attractive place that you must see. Magic place. This is a place you don't want to leave. It's worth coming here.

stunning natural area
Aug 2020
We spent several hours wandering around here with our family. A beautiful natural site with great views over the coastline. There are a couple of places to take a drink or bite to eat. Past the new lighthouse there are some paths leading down to the old buildings by the edge.. If you explore carefully there is a hidden path that goes past them & leads down the steep clear to the sea.

Worth the visit!
Mar 2020
The Cabo Espichel may be a bit out of the way and definitely requires a car, but it is worth the effort: in addition to the beautiful landscape, especially during the sunset, it offers a combination of attractions: an historical lighthouse, a beautiful Sanctuary and Hermitage, containing footprints of sauropod dinosaurs and a water house with the ruin of an aqueduct to was bringing the water to the premises. It is said that part of the site is under restauration to house a hotel.

Beautiful vista over the coastline, the Lighthouse & the Monastery
Feb 2020
Beautiful vista over the coastline with cragy outposts. The Lighthouse was very interesting - pity it's not open to the public. The Monastery is spectacular, it is a pity that the dormitories where the monks used to be has been bricked up & are inaccessible - wonderful location.

Beautiful Sesimbra Must See!
Feb 2020 • Family
Really beautiful cape! Amazing views. Wide, well-walked trails with easy to moderate inclines. Plenty to explore! Safe for school age children to walk/hike/explore while supervised. Features a 15th century Church and the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Cabo, as well as other ruins - all open to walk about and explore unencumbered by security, safety structures and/or fencing. Beautiful drive out! Great location for a bicycle ride, motorcycle ride, or daytime RV trip. Plenty of parking. Tons of hills and trails for two wheel or four wheel dirt bikes. On weekends there are two food trucks in addition to the onsite cafe. There is also a local vendor selling trinkets, wind chimes, and jewelry made from locally derived seashells and stones. Opposite of the sanctuary is a light house to view but not always open for entrance as there are private residences surrounding the lighthouse. Still beautiful to view and hike around!

Fantastic views
Sep 2019 • Couples
If you are in Sesimbra then its worth a visit to the Sanctuary of Cape Espichel. You get amazing views of the cliffs but the sanctuary and old church is great to wander around. The roads can be a bit rough getting here but worth persevering. Lots of places to park and its free to walk around.
